A couple of questions. Is the Vampire still for sale or has it been sold? And are there any restrictions on the Gnats as a result of the Shoreham report?
“Experience flights” in a 2-seat Sea Fury? Now you’re talking. I wonder.
According to G-INFO, P9374 (G-MKIA) has Historic Flying as registered owner with the ownership status as “chartered”. Presumably that is from Mark One Partners, registered in the Cayman Islands. It is due to be used by Classic Wings in it’s “Wing to Wing with a Spitfire” programme this Summer.
A very nice set. Did you go to Turweston for the Pup Fly-In? I was grounded with a dead battery.
I’d love to HEAR the”howl” of it’s engines.
David Morris at Just Plane Trading has a good reputation and he deals in both aeroplanes and helicopters.
I still think the Breitling Fighters 4-ship formations set the standard, especially if a Hanna was in one of them.
And one of them had a near groundloop on landing. Heart in mouth time.
I thought I read somewhere that the “Turweston” Hurricane was due to go to the USA. Could be wrong as usual.
I’m not sure it’s definitely saved. It will depend on the engineering assessment.
The Australian group is the Qantas History outfit which rescued the 707 (720?) from Southend.. They are also rescuing a Super Connie from Indonesia(?). That one’s going back to Oz by land and sea.
Do you happen to know if the future of the airfield itself is secure yet?
Give it a couple of years. (Global warming and all that!)
The Pooley’s airfield guide has Crowfield as the home of the Peterborough and Spalding Gliding Club. The postcode is PE6 0JW, the phone number is 01733 210463 and the website is http://www.psgc.co.uk. I hope that helps
I think there is merit at looking what the classic cars do in that if the “recreation” uses original materials and plans, then they call them “continuation” editions which does sound a bit better than “replica”. However it doesn’t always work as at a meeting to which all the remaining genuine Maserati 250Fs were invited (a late 50s GP car), 32 put in entries. Problem was only 28 were built in period. I believe the wealthier owners store the original cars (Jaguar D-types and the like) and race their “continuation” models which can achieve the correct papers from the FIA. It’s a minefield and I agree with “ericmunk” that we should all be grateful that the owners continue to fly their aircraft for our and their enjoyment.
