Didn’t one of them go to Northern Ireland?
Agreed. They are great aircraft but not that great!
Thanks J Boyle. £70k is a bit too much but it was a nice thought.
Have the T-6s replaced the CT-4s? If so have the CT-4s come on to the civilian market yet? Just asking as it might be nice to replace my Air tourer.
Ain’t that the truth!
Thanks Moggy and that pretty much agrees with what other aerobatic pilots have told me at Duxford. The reason I ask is that over on the “dark side” there is a lot of discussion about a sticky altimeter and power lever settings and not much about Mark One eyeball. In other word “eyes-in” rather than “eyes-out” which rather surprises me.
As a non-aerobatic PPL, could one of the members on the forum tell me what you look at in the first part of a loop? Altimeter,ASI, throttle, all three or look out of the window and say “that looks about right”
Moggy, I believe we are on the same hymn sheet……hurrah.
As the OED defines a “forum” as “a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged” I don’t see that Facebook and this forum are mutually exclusive.
Trolley Aux, you asked a question, Facebook provided an answer. What’s not to like?
BTW, the engine was shock load tested and proved to be OK.
Check their Facebook page. All appears to be well.
This thread raises an interesting question on the ageing GA aircraft population. The abandoned twins mentioned above are likely to be joined by many more as it is just not financially viable to re-engine them when they come to their engine’s TBO. Typically an overhauled engine will cost in the region of £30K and putting two of those on an airframe worth about £25K doesn’t make sense. This is also happening with singles as well. I agree with jag636 that they don’t have the “pull” of a modern fighter but if our museums don’t take them on we will be wishing we had 10 years down the track. As you’ve already started at Newark perhaps you could set up a niche area for them? It might prove to be a “draw” in it’s own right.
Some amazing footage there, thanks for posting. I wonder if the B-26 with the smoky starboard engine made it back? I was surprised at the tight formation they were keeping. I would have thought that gave the flak gunners a bigger target.
On a similar theme, is there any news on either of the TFC Sea Furies?
Interesting twist on Amy Johnson’s fate. Shot down by our AA in Sussex? New one on me.
