The Rapide might appear at Duxford in the near future.
It would be nice to get the Avro Avian back to the UK to counterbalance all the Moths. Not that they’re a bad thing, in case DHSL are watching this thread!
What happened to the “membership” scheme that was started 3 or 4 years ago which was aimed at helping to keep the aircraft flying? Did it get cancelled or are folk still contributing? I must confess I had a look but backed away.
Perhaps I’m behind the game (as usual) but does anybody know who is sponsoring this Spitfire fiesta?
Another source suggests £1/second as a ballpark figure. That grosses up to £3,600 per hour, depending of course on annual utilisation.
Couldn’t agree more.
Wyvernfan, the Millers are father and son, not brothers.
This thread made me look at my passenger logbook and I see I did a day return to Belfast Harbour from Luton back in March 1989. It was in Capital’s Shorts 360 G-OLGW. I seem to remember the pilot apologising that he had to climb to 11000 ft to avoid some weather. Didn’t half make my ears pop. It must have been on the limit of legality without oxygen. As others have said, it was not a comfortable ride.
Thanks Mike. I thought it might have been Stu Goldspink as he has friends in the village.
Any idea who was flying N3200 last evening?
Whoever it was made a lovely circuit of my village and received a great round of applause from the guests at the party I was at.
There is also the story that, even if a restoration was completed, Stephen Grey would not be allowed to fly it due to a change in the pilot licensing regulations. After spending so much effort on it that would seem to be a show stopper. Out of interest does the Beaufighter at Moorabbin (?) still do ground runs?
Commentating is not easy. I did a couple of car race meetings some years ago and I found it very difficult to judge what the crowd is interested in as you are naturally facing the action and not the punters. As a test, try locking yourself in the bathroom and talking to yourself for 3 hours and see how interesting you are at the end of it!
Watch this space. You might be surprised.
Not sure but it may be the RAF Benevolent Fund.
And it went for £3.1 million. Perhaps Chancellor Osbourne has got it right and there is some money about but £3.1 million?
