Great idea. Better still with a Typhoon on each wingtip and to cap it all a live firing exercise.

Certainly the developer seemed certain that it was ripe for development but he would wouldn’t he?

Thanks for the “heads-up” Propstrike, just my cup of tea.

It’s long been inactive but there is a proposal for 2000 houses on Wisley airfield in Surrey. On the ITV programme last week it looked as thought there was ample space for a GA runway but I guess that is wishful thinking.

I was lucky enough to get Swanton Morley in my logbook back in June 1982. I flew up from Denham in our group owned Cessna 172 G-AZJV and was surprised at the reaction from the Norwich and Norfolk Aero Club members who hadn’t expected flyers from “so far away”. It was all of 1.2 hours flying but we were made very welcome all the same. Thank you to the original poster for the nostalgic photos.

Welcome aboard. Those are nice period photographs and are even more interesting as Hucknall closes as an airfield this weekend.

Doubtless you’ve looked at G-INFO which shows it being owned by Peter Meyrick from Nantwich. The Permit is valid till 4/7/15 so it’s obviously active. There are some photos on G-INFO which might help you to recognise the airfield where it’s based.

It looks like the inspiration for one of the aircraft in the Japanese film “The Wind Rises”.

Oh, I am getting old. I remember the Drover arriving at Squires Gate (Blackpool International Spaceport or whatever) and asking Russell Whyham what he was going to do with it. I believe the intention was to use it for his “Round the Tower” trips but as far as I remember it was never assembled and remained propped up against his hangar. I guess 3 engines were more expensive to run than the 2 on his Dragons and Rapides.

Great shots, both of the aircraft and the Northern Lights. At the risk of thread drift, I was lucky enough to see them on the way home from London one evening. I thought at first Biggleswade was on fire (good thing/bad thing?) but it proved to be the Lights. The final flourish looked like a celestial Japanese flag. Amazing sight.

Perhaps the accident to the Thunder City Lightning where, among other things, the ejector seat failed has made MB think again.

Well I suppose that’s what you get if you spend North Sea oil money wisely! An excellent report but I think the Beaver is actually an Otter(?)

I must say the silver colour scheme does look really good and an interesting change from the camo schemes.
