Not too sure about the “salute” in the third picture down. Fine job though.
Just looking at the formation of 10 aircraft on their break to join downwind and I wondered where the last one to break must have been when his time came to break. He must have been in the next county. Was it usual to return in such close formation?
Every time I fly in to Old Buckenham I can’t help thinking of those young chaps in the B-24s and wondering if they made it back. It’s certainly an airfield with “presence” and is becoming very active again.
A Lynx passed through Duxford a couple of weeks ago and chatting to the crew they said it was over 30 years old and going in to retirement. I guess that’s a good reflection on the maintenance teams that looked after it. They were also looking forward to the Wildcat so the Lynx family can’t be all bad.
Plus the Hawk Speed Six and the other restored Hawk and we’d be getting somewhere!
Thanks Martin and Black Knight, it was certainly a labour of love to get it so right. Perhaps now he’s got some time on his hands he could do a scheme for one of the many Spitfires that are around! (Did I say that).
I’m sure it’s been discussed before but who designed the colour scheme for ” Miss Demeanour”?
Oops we crossed over.
Nice shots, pleased to see the sense of humour is still there. I called in to OW for lunch and the centre of attraction was an Army Apache. Looked a bit out of place on OW’s green sward.
Being a casual visitor to this thread (I’m really a GA type), I have to say I admire your persistence in bringing this thread to us and introducing me to some types that I had never seen before. Much more interesting than yet another Spitfire at Duxford. Keep up the good work.
27Vet, why do you think the pilot was unconscious? Certainly it looks like a flat spin but that should have been recoverable by a pilot of his calibre. On another site it is claimed he broadcast a “Mayday” which might imply a control failure. I wonder if the chap who was called back by the commentator would have got there before the “fire brigade” and thus been able to assist. Tragic all round and awful publicity for Red Bull shortly before their return to racing.
Some interesting shots there Daniel. I didn’t realise you had an Avenger “down under” Who operates it? There didn’t seem to be any representation from HARS. I have a mate who flies the Drover and they usually get to these events.
A quick look at G-INFO shows only 2 Doves with a current C of A in the UK, G-DHDV of Air Atlantique and G-OPLC registered to an address in the IOM. I wonder who is now responsible for the Type Certificate because without that they won’t be able to fly for much longer. They may be able to go on a Permit but Public Transport (pleasure flying) wouldn’t be allowed.
Thanks Arm Waver, good to see you again. I really like your photograph of the departure queue in your flickr set. It was a real scramble with crews departing in all directions. We’ve got a “3-line whip” out for the October meeting and I hope we might get at least 4 Airtourers if the weather behaves.
Nice change from the heavy metal…thank you. Slightly disappointed that you didn’t feature the two Airtourers though. We would have been three but one owner got stuck at the back of his hangar and was late arriving.
