A sombre thought but I seem to recall that about 85 were involved in accidents and crashes. Something like 25%.
I thought the 727 had been “killed off” by the noise regs? Maybe this one is hush-kitted.
Thanks captainslow. Good to have chapter and verse and to find that my memory hasn’t completely gone!
Thanks Vultee. That’s exactly what I meant and as there seems to be a tie-up between the Friedkins and the UK operators I wondered if “Snafu” was going Stateside for a visit.
I seem to recall it was said that one of the Hurricanes used in the Battle of Britain movie could never be properly trimmed out and was stodgy to fly as the result of a hurried rebuild. And didn’t Shuttleworth have a similar problem with the Sea Hurricane, which may have been due to the weight of the hook?
Let’s hope it’s a short term transfer like Princess Elizabeth.
Spot on Eric.
A bit like the TSR-2 then? Best not go there.
And how on earth would you finance it? I heard mutterings that £35 is getting towards the top end of what people are prepared to pay.
I think (hope) he was being cynical.
I don’t know how many times it has to be said but if you really don’t want to hear the commentary do as Neil Osbourne says and go down to the section at the M11 end where the enclosure projects out a bit. I spoke to the chaps setting up the sound system on Friday and they said they purposely don’t put a speaker there so people wanting to video the show can do so without background noise of the “wrong” sort.
So, we’d like to see the Me 262, DB-engined Me 109, Fiat G59 and the SAAB B-17 at Legends. I enjoy the little Morane Saulnier fighter (and the Frenchman with his geese but that’s another story). Any chance do you think?
The Breitling Fighters. Four different types flown in close formation with a well thought out routine. I guess we’ll never see the like again.
There was also the story that new pilot regs mean that Mr.Grey wouldn’t be able to fly the Beaufighter. Considering he funds the operation I guess that was a bit of a show-stopper.
No pictures but there hasn’t been any visible progress on the Beaufighter for at least a year. Does that help?
