Was there another WACO there as I saw two come over here in loose formation mid-afternoon? Nice photos by the way.
Nice set Andy. The Wellington and Heinkel had me going for a bit!
Maybe I’m being a bit dim but what do you mean bravo 24?
The museum list shows it as ex French Air Force as you suggest. Perhaps it was “liberated” after one of the all too prevalent African civil wars.
That’s a pity. I would have liked to get it in my logbook and it’s long enough even for my landings.
Really interesting. Thanks for posting. What is the Skyraider doing there? Did the SAAF use them at some stage. Loved the sunshine as well!
Do you know if they are accepting fly-In visitors and, if so, who is the contact?
Unfortunately the memorial has been damaged in the recent past but it has now been repaired. I don’t think we will ever see flying there again as there was a super show in the year Wimbledon beat Liverpool in the FA Cup (when was that?). Prince Bernhardt of the Netherlands was there and the flying programme had some real gems in it. Allegedly quite a few air display rules were, shall we say, infringed that day. Did I see a (very) low flying Corsair or was it the lunchtime Greene King IPA? However it does remain a rather special place.
Intriguing! If you look on abpic.co.uk she appears to have had several colour schemes on the starboard rudder. Annoyingly none of the pictures show the port side. Keep us posted.
Isn’t that the remains of a Canadian flag on the fin in the very first picture in this thread?
That’s the one. I admire your photo research capability so thanks for that.
It very probably is this one although when I saw it it was still in RNZAF colours. It does look as though it has had a recent respray doesn’t it? Thanks for the “heads-up” anyway.
Unfortunately I don’t have any photographs but I’m fairly sure there was at least one Devon at the museum at Wanaka airport in New Zealand when I was there three years ago. Like most stuff there it was a non-flyer.
Oh well, it will be interesting to see what transpires.
Thanks Moggy. Do you have the reference?
