Or indeed “Reggie the Lion” from Kings College which, as a civil engineer there, I jealously guarded from various assaults. I wonder if these mascots still feature at London University or are viewed as too immature. Modern students don’t know what they are missing. Flour bombs and soot projectiles………. Happy days.
We’re already there on avgas. My last load was £1.81 per litre. Something to think about when you’re refuelling Sally B.
Is this the ex-military one that was kept outside the green huts near “Area 51” at Duxford for many years? If so it’s a super job.
Thanks for your very quick reply Benno, Just the kind of thing I need. Could I ask what was the sequence of operators? RAF, Italian AF, then civil?
A bit tricky finding somewhere to do high level pumped storage in East Anglia I would think. The bottom line is if we don’t want to rely on Russia and it’s satellites for our gas and oil, then nuclear it is. Simples

Interesting piece on “Look East” last night in which the owner of the land (who also owns the golf club) said that if the locals didn’t want the wind farm then neither did he. This was at the local planning meeting. On a general point, how anybody can defend something that at best is only 32% efficient, when it’s running, and runs only about 25% of the time, is a source of wonder.

The SF260 is my favourite single engined piston aircraft so thank you for those photographs. What is happening to the SF260AMs? Are they being sold off to private owners?
Having spent many happy hours from 1955 to 1962 hanging over the fence at Squires Gate (now Blackpool International Spaceport or summat), I don’t remember ever seeing a Starways aircraft. This is odd as the text would indicate that Blackpool was a stop on the Glasgow route. Was this just wishful thinking on Starways’ part or was it a regular happening?.
Thanks for the updates chaps. It certainly is an impressive bit of kit. My apologies for implying that OFMC did the rebuild. I had intended to say that they had had it rebuilt. Mind you their efforts to get it flying in the UK involved some really hard work in getting it past the CAA. I seem to remember that was the main reason Ray Hanna took it back to New Zealand.`
The Cranfield A1 is still there but looking rather down at heel.Apparently it is used by the College for accident investigation but in a non-destructive way.
The Jurca G-ASUS is for sale on http://www.afors.com, at the moment if anybody is brave enough.
It would be interesting to hear from the “Sally B” group what their views of a change of colour scheme might be. I’ve just worked out that if “Sally B” uses 200 gallons per hour and does 60 hours per year then the EXTRA fuel costs for 2011 will be approx £18,000 due to VAT and fuel price increases. Not a lot left over for bits of sticky plastic or resprays I would think.
Just to give you an idea of what it might cost to repaint Sally B, a pal of mine has just spent £7000 to have his Commander 112 resprayed. Scale that up to B-17 proportions and you must be looking at the thick end of £30,000. I’m sure if you came up with a business plan and the cash Elly S would listen to you but probably not for long bearing in mind the recent respray.
