“Spins” or “passes” ? Didn’t think spinning was practised much in the early swept wing jets.
I’ll get my coat.
Joining in this a bit late but I have a Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro which I use with a Nikon D40. I had a good summer with it in 2009 and was doing quite well this year until the Little Gransden show when the whole shebang locked up and it wouldn’t release the shutter, focus or anything else. I took it back to the dealer in Cambridge who returned it to Sigma and it’s back now , repaired at their cost as it was under guarantee. There was no explanation with it but it does seem to be working quite well but for how long? No airshows to check it at this time of year.
Very sad and moving film. Particularly the B-29 that was dropping out of the formation at 6:49. I wonder what he was thinking seeing his chums disappearing ahead of him. Not being a military enthusiast I was surprised to see so many wrecked B-29s. After their Hiroshima/Nagasaki exploits I had thought they were almost impregnable. Clearly not.
Thanks Scott. Sounds reasonable to me.
Greta shots but what is the point of camouflaging the big Bell (?) machine and then painting the engine compartment in a hi-viz paint? I don’t really “do” military stuff so I’m just curious.
You are quite correct AA, the Airtourer I referred to was G-AWVH. A bit of further research shows it crashed at Goodwood on 15/3/81, was cancelled 12/83 and the remains went to an ATC Squadron at Laindon. It was finally scrapped in 91. Not as glamorous as the Spitfires but could be added to your list for completeness.
Avion ancien, I note your interest in civilian aircraft that ended up with ATC Squadrons and i have an oddity for you. I own Airtourer G-AWVG and I have a note that Airtourer G-AWVF was handed on to an ATC squadron in Essex (?) after it was withdrawn from service. Have you got any info on that ?
Saw a rather dead looking 125 as I flew over Cranfield yesterday. Is that up for grabs?
Jungmeister has the “round” engine and the Jungmann has the “straight” one (of various types). I believe you can still buy a new build Jungmann from Poland (?)
Missed the Messenger as well but one hangar was locked. Which one is it?
Thanks Thunderbird. It looked as though some rubbing down has been undertaken on the Meteor so hopefully it’s due for a repaint. I didn’t see any signs of anything other than the wings and engines/props of the Bristol Frightener.
Only this forum could condemn this proposal before a frame has been shot.
Looks like a version of the Pou-de-ciel or “Flying Flea”. Avions ancien will be along shortly with the pilots inside trouser leg length I have no doubt as he’s keen on these oddballs.
Thanks chaps for the updates on the reason for the double fold wings. I was showing an American chum the Gannet at Duxford and he fell about laughing at the wingfold set-up and the Mamba engine installation. An excess of complication was his viewpoint.
Slight thread drift but I’ve always wondered why several British naval aircraft, including the Wyvern, had a second fold on each wing. Was this for clearance on the hangar deck? Otherwise it seems to add extra complication and therefore weight, which is not a “good thing”.
