Slight thread drift but is the Belfast Truss design philosophy the same as the geodetic construction on the Wellington? It certainly looks similar.
Hoxton Park is due to close so check before going. Some of the residents have gone to Wedderburn. HARS keep their Connie and the rest of the fleet at Woollangong.
Pogno,
That would seem to be a logical line of thinking although finance will, as ever, be the key factor. I wonder if the team that look after the Brittania at Kemble have had any thoughts about the Freighter? As it is one of the (relative) sucesses of the post-war British airliner industry I would have thought it would be worth restoring to static display standard.
I would be really interested to see what sort of business plan all you folk who grumble about the RAFM would put in place to counter the restricted access, lighting, closed galleries and so on. Bear in mind that unlike Duxford it is free so where is the money going to come from? Cloud and cuckoo land spring to mind.
Thanks for that ‘PDK but the invite to get the Airtourers to North Weald came about when I met Bernard Martin of Air Britain at Aero Expo last year and he very kindly persued the idea. Incidentally the Australian branch held their “50th” at Wangaratta last weekend and had about 35 aircraft there. We won’t manage that but 6 out of the 12 airworthy UK aircraft won’t be bad.
Quite right Paul. It’s framed and hanging on my study wall.
It certainly was an excellent day out and for the icing on the cake you took a picture of my Airtourer G-AWVG. I just hope all the movements didn’t annoy the neighbours as Turweston have struggled in the past with noise complaints.
I thought Beagle went cap in hand to the Govt for some capital to expand their production facilities and to re-engineer the faults discovered on the Pups that were in service. They had back orders for several hundred Pups so the “too-pricy” tag wasn’t the whole answer. So the question for Wedgie is why did you deny Beagle a few million and give it to a Scottish shipyard which subsequently failed (Now there’s a surprise)?. I bet he doesn’t say “it was for the votes we needed in Scotland”. At least he was a sort of Socialist unlike the present loonies, sorry incumbents.
It ain’t going to fly anywhere until they find some engines for it. What’s the latest?
So they’ve solved the engine source problems then?
Problem solved. If you go to the Aero Auction website it says it’s “airworthy in the USA”.
A small point but I didn’t think Germany based aircraft were allowed to carry the swastika. Perhaps it’s because it’s N-registered.
I know this is a picture thread but there’s one on a pole in Griffith NSW. I have a picture somewhere and I’ll try to upload it. It looked to be in good condition when I saw it a year ago.
Feather #3 will be along shortly. (Morning Sandy).
Bradburger,
Your opening paragraph in your response #47 rather confirms my query. At Biggin the pilot couldn’t be contacted yet at Duxford he was. Presumably the monitoring group were in/on the Control Tower at Duxford but weren’t at Biggin. I’d just like to know if airshow rules now insist on the “watchers” having a direct line to the pilots to “pull” their display if it isn’t going to plan and if the procedure is in the pre-show briefing.
