Having a bit of difficulty understanding why 2 Tornados are better than i Tornado and 1Typhoon.
I feel sorry for the group that did so much of the work to get it near to an airworthy state and then see it fly off in to the distance. But as has been said, at least it should keep on flying.
I guess what was really needed was a re-engined version with just two engines.which could have competed with the Embraer/Bombardier twins. But B.Ae. never seemed really keen on competing on their own behalf in the civil world and stuck with Airbus.
Well done chaps. I always used to enjoy my trips to Frankfurt on the Air UK 146s. Always on time, even in some really poor weather.
A good spot there Tomcat, thanks for posting. I must say the lady swinging the Moth got a bit close to the prop and I was surprised how soon they got their tails up (oo-er missus) after opening the throttles in the race. One of the Moths sounded a bit rough at the end of the race didn’t it?
Speaking to a well known warbird pilot yesterday, he mentioned that “Pegs” was selected as it has a relatively forward C of G which makes inserting the second seat somewhat easier as “pogno” enquired. His comment was that you couldn’t put a hamster on a back seat in some of the others without moving the C of G out of rearward limits.
Thanks Ant. It was a new one on me. Looks a neat little aircraft.
An excellent roundup. Interesting number of UK designs which rather points to a lost market since WW2. What type is ZK-ADV in the 11th photograph?
At the risk of thread drift but those were good days at Squires Gate. I was a bit earlier (57-63) and Arnold no longer exists as such. There was always something going on with Russell Whyham and later Brian Bateson. Quality not quantity was the watchword.
No help at all really but I guess it was one of Russell Whyham’s acquisitions. ANT still exist so perhaps they could help? BTW were you at school in Blackpool? I was just down Lytham Road at Arnold so Squires Gate was on my way home.
Well said.
I guess it will end up in Canada if the price is not too steep. Half a million does seem quite a lot. By the way has the other Beaver at Duxford flown yet?
It is, although there were rumours of a solar farm being built on it but they seem to have subsided.
So what does a Luton Martin Monoplane look like then? Interesting find. For restoration?
Thanks for posting these. I’d forgotten that the HS 125 was capable of operation off grass. All in all a real dose of nostalgia.
