There were rows of them at Davis-Monthan on Stephen Fry’s programme about America on BBC last night. The lucky so and so got there in a highly polished B-17.
With the Ozzie tradition of improvisation I wouldn’t have thought it was a problem but as you’ve now got the 4 spares all would seem to be well. (See you on Tuesday.)
A very prudent decision Low’n’slow. I nearly ran out of control authority on finals in to 22 due to the turbulence. It’s been a helluva year for winds this year hasn’t it? Strong and crosswinds from odd directions. Oh well perhaps 2009 will be better.
I seem to remember an episode in which a couple of the characters in the soap did some aeros at Breighton (?) in two Extras. Subsequently other memebers flew with the Blades in their Extras but this didn’t appear on the TV but the pictures are on the wall of the Woolpack. As to the reason for the Arrows and Tucano I’ve no idea but there are Ferrari and McLaren prints in one of the houses and I don’t remember them appearing at Silverstone.
My pleasure, I always enjoy the VAC events. We would have had 5 Airtourers but the weather in the North-East and Wales respectively meant two of our members had to cancel.
Thanks Bograt. I rememeber seeing it doing engine runs. Was the problem something to do with missing manuals or paperwork?
In which case the chap that marshalled me in has a very strange facial disease which manifets itself as a red and black shiny plastic appearance!!!!
Which “monster” were you? I arrived about 1145 in my Airtourer G-AWVG and after a very bumpy trip I needed a coffee so I didn’t hang about in the parking area. It was a very pleasant day despite the weather but what happened to the Jodel that went up on it’s nose prior to takeoff?
Great pictures as ever. Forgive my ignorance but did the Spitfire XVIII ever fly at Duxford?
I was fortunate to meet an ex-Lancaster pilot at Duxford some years ago and he told me a tale about losing an engine on the way to the target in the Ruhr. Some debate ensued about returning but they pressed on only to have another engine starting to run rough but they still pressed on. They completed the mission and on getting back to base his crew rounded on him and asked why he’d kept going. His reply was “Well we were in the lead group and with 600 more coming our way a 180 could have been a bit dodgy”. I wonder if today’s 20 year olds would have the foresight and courage to make that sort of decision.
Those shots are just about as good as it gets. Living in the flatlands of East Anglia, it amazes me how close the high speed jets get to the scenery. Very well done.
Thanks T-21, that sounds about right. It would be good to see them both together at a display next year.
I was crossing the ILS just after but unfortunately didn’t see it. (Perhaps that should be fortunately) The pilot in charge sounded as though he might have been German/Austrian. Doing a type rating perhaps?
Great things these GPSs (Only joking). Another 5 minutes would have given you Old Buckenham and the chance for a decent cup of tea and a sandwich.
The YAK was flying about three weeks ago and then went back to Arco. Whether it’s gone back to France I don’t know.
