I’m not an aerodynamicist but as I understand it pusher props don’t work as well as the more conventional tractor props for some of the reasons mentioned. Certainly, on a subjective level, a Sky Arrow sounds a lot louder on take-off than other Rotax 912 powered VLAs which might indicate the pusher prop is working harder. The Cessna 337 is banned from many airfields because of the noise and that has both a pusher and a tractor prop.

Slightly surprised that the OFMC Spitfire MH434 isn’t on the list or have I missed something?

The CAA banning of the BD-5 family in the UK is a fairly recent development, certainly within the last year. This has resulted in a couple of examples being moved on to the Irish register but whether they will be allowed to fly in the UK I don’t know.

Thanks for the link to the video Daz, I hadn’t seen that before. One query though for any Hunter pilots out there. Would you normally roll the Hunter with the flaps down? Perhaps that was to help maintan station wiith the camers ship but I would have thought it was a bit unusual.

The two-seater Hunter, XJ 615, was used in a Fat Boy Slim promo video (Whoever he/she is!)

Thanks for the response, HP, and I do see the difficulty. If the Shoreham Gemini is up for sale at £35K with a current C of A, it is hard to see that the Mercury is worth twice as much. I guess he is trying to recoup some of the large wad of Scandanavian notes he must have ploughed in to it over the years.

And the Mercury as well…..pretty please!

Slightly off topic but there is a Miles Gemini for sale at the moment, along with the Miles Mercury in Scandanavia. The Gemini in particular seems to prove the point that a restored airworthy airframe is much cheaper than starting a restoration as it’s up for sale at about £35K. Wouldn’t those two aircraft complement HPs Miles types nicely. Any philanthropists about?

Thanks John. That was the site that gave me the number to call but unfortunately I was too late today. It still gives it as being there so I’ll try again tomorrow.

Correct, the Iraqi Fury did go to South Africa. The Hunters were purchased by the OFMC for what was rumoured to be a 4-jet formation team but the sponsor wasn’t keen on a “military” jet being used. I believe the airframes are/were at Scampton for a while possibly due to the Hanna RAF connections.
Shame that the Connie is now grounded in a museum in Korea (?). Excellent photos though.

Didn’t Mr Edgeley design a self-build glider after he’d recovered from the Optica affair? I believe it was built from a material used in racing cars called Mallite (?), a sort of composite sandwich structure. I think I remember seeing the prototype at a PFA Rally at Cranfield some years ago but whether it ever “took off” (sorry) as a design I don’t know.

As I understand it the “French Connection” has been on and off and is currently off and the Fury is still at Bournemouth (?). I would imagine the cost of keeping it airworthy, with that big Centaurus up front, would exceed any possible airshow income. Let’s hope it finds a good home in the UK and doesn’t join the Reno Racers in the USA. Mind you, the sight and sound of those guys flat out round the pylons will stay with me for a long time even if they do have American engines.

One thing to bear in mind is that Andrewsfield is a grass strip and I believe has been closed recently due to the heavy rain. Stapleford on the other hand has a hard “starter extension” to the main runway and so isn’t affected. I’d agree with Moggy, go and try both but don’t part with any money until you are sure.
Incidentally don’t let either of them put you off the NPPL. I had to relinquish my CAA PPL for the NPPL and it hasn’t affected the type of flying I do at all. Basically it’s day VFR in a Glos-Airtourer.Sorted!

Wessex Boy, guilty as charged. Looks like you’ve got a budding enthusiast there?
