Didn’t the 91 Cranfield Show, at which SM969 appeared, have a Reno-style air race for warbirds along with the Formula one racers?
Perhaps that was the reason for it’s presence being something a “bit different”.
Mark 12, did you have any dealings with Len Batin, a quantity surveyor who used to fly DA around in his Twin Comanche? I’ve lost touch and it would be nice to catch up.
Going way back on this thread but not ALL G-reg aircraft have letters. I seem to remember a Europa at a PFA Rally that was registered G-2000 (in the millenium year) and of course test aircraft have numbers e.g. G-35-27 or somesuch. And I own/fly an Airtourer and am broke as a result.
And the British Airways club at High Wycombe used to put up a four-ship PA-28 Cherokee formation. Their intoductory manouvre used to be a formation STALL. Anybody got a picture of that!
I remember being on a “spotting” trip to White Waltham when the Rotodyne arrived back from a trial flight. The performance was impressive but the noise was something else. Apart from being extemely loud it had a most unpleasant pitch somewhere between a screech and fingernails down a blackboard (for those of you old enough to rememeber blackboards!). Can’t imagine it being allowed in this PC world.
Firebird, like you I’m a chartered engineer….once I couldn’t spell engineer now I are one and so on. However if you are designing “hangers” it must be a bit limiting. I would have thought “hangars” would give you more scope. Just a thought.
Great movie Janie. I have an Airtourer which was originally built by Victa in Australia who are the biggest manufacturer of lawnmowers “Down Under”. Allegedly the only lawn mower bit on the Airtourer is the trim adjustment lever whch was also used to set the height of the cut on the lawnmowers. I’d heard that an Ozzie had built a Flying Lawnmower. Is this it?
I don’t think I have ever seen a warning notice on any of the stands that sell time-expired aircraft instruments at air-shows. Is that a case of “caveat emptor” (“buyer beware” for those of you who didn’t have a Latin education)?
Yak 139, try Motor Sport. The original **** Protheroe lightweight E-type CUT 7 is up for auction. Feeling wealthy?
Oh and nice pics by the way. I’m glad she survived a winter in the open at Cranfield.
The “buzz” over on pprune had her going to Iceland. Bad navigation or duff gen?
Any of Stelio Frati’s designs. Falco, SF260 or the more recent Pinguino. Airborne Ferraris I understand.
And the Who are at Wyton! When the Duxford proposal was first mooted, along with all the other whispers, it was said that Sir Arthur wouldn’t go anywhere unless it involved him and his employees in zero expense. In other words one of your relocation packages, Yak11, and it would be a brave developer who would take that on. Mind you when you fly over the airport it is a big chunk of real estate in a very tempting position. Pity there’s no infrastructure, which may yet be the “lifesaver” for the airport.
Look East last night had just the Specialised Vehicle Unit moving and as far as I know they don’t fly. I hear that the RAF are not keen on moving out of Wyton as it backs up the Logistics Group at Brampton and in any case the peritracks and infrastructure are not up to Alconbury’s standard. So status quo for a bit longer.
Excellent news. I loook forward to seeing G-VETA around and about later in the season. Thanks for the updates chaps.
