So I guess the Kh-31P anti-radar missile would be a far more effective weapon against AEGIS protected warships…

So the supersonic capability of the Kh-31A wouldn’t make it any more effective against an AEGIS protected vessel? I was just trying to gauge how effective this AshM is compared to Exocet, Harpoon etc…especially since China uses it…(Venezuela and Libya should be getting it soon with their Su-30s)

thanks for all the info crobato…I could swear I read somewhere that the new version of the F-8IIM released in 2004 was said to be still compatible with the R-27 and R-73 series AAMs… (it seems from the web that the PL-11 is a dead project now…so I was still looking into the possibility of Russian MRAAMs on the finback!)

ah! you have me on that one…I guess I was thinking about other US made equipment I heard about on Pakistani F-7s…you are totally right about that…I hear about Martin Baker seats on US aircraft and seem to automatically think that its an American company…

Can and is the F-7MG/J-7G able to be produced without any US-made components onboard??? I wonder if that would take away any of its capability??? Or would nations such as Venezuela or Zimbabwe even be able to acquire these new models? (I remember hearing about the F-7PG faeturing alot of US-made cockpit equipment such as martin-baker ejection seats…HUDWAC etc…

One last question, if the Nigerians or somebody else decided to purchase the F-8IIM, would they get SD-10 or PL-11/11A as a BVR missile, because if it comes with a solid BVR capability…the finback looks relativly attractive for nations in need of cheaper interceptors…

    thanks for your patience!

Wow, are the Chinese still making new F-7 varients still as well???…If equipped with the PL-9C and HMS it would be a solid WVR fighter…What sort of radar are on those new Nigerian and Bangladeshi F-7MGs??? Man, you could buy a mix of new build F-7MGs, F-8IIMs and a few JH-7As from the chinese and get a relativly solid fleet for the fraction of the cost of similar buys

wow…lots of good information here!!! Venezuelan Yak-130s would be interesting…any more news on the AMV being interested in Mi-28NEs to replace their OV-10s in the CAS/COIN role??? And how many Mi-35M2 Caribes are they going to acquire? Such advanced attack helos would be very useful in COIN and controlling the Venezuelan-Colombian border…

I didn’t want to talk about politics…just wanted to talk about aircraft…yeah, I thought the whole idea of Venezuela getting Su-39 was a bit absurd…especially for their navy…anyone have any idea how the Su-30MK2s match up the Chile’s new Peace Puma Vipers…the would seem to be about equal…(though the F-16s would have a big edge in radar and avioncs!)

yeah but didn’t that same channel play an important rule in the very undemocratic coup against Chavez in 2002??? I believe they played cartoons on the airwaves while the populace (or I should say the pro-Chavez elements of the populace) was beginning to rise up against the coup plotters…I dont agree with Chavez on everything, and frankly would have chosen to renew RCTVs license if I were in his position…but the point was that Bush did make the foreign relations side of the issue nastier when he rufused to allow Venezuela to upgrade its F-16s…they would never have acquired these Su-30s and maybe would have had better relations with the US…I hope this doesn’t become a political flame-thread now!!!!! I just wanted to get some more info. on the aircraft without treading on more contentious issues…

wow…eight delivered already with training programs ongoing…sounds like the AMV is on the right track with their new Flankers…so is there any truth to the rumors of the Air Force or Navy acquiring Su-35s or Su-39 mud movers in the near-future? (I’ve heard alot about the Navy getting the Su-39s)…Thanks for all the pics and videos guys…those have to be the best looking Flankers I’ve seen!!!

yep…I dont why Bush didn’t let the Venezuelans have the F-16 upgrade…it would have been a good ice-breaker to lessen the ridiculous tensions between the US and Venezuela…plus as you said, US made F-16s would have been alot less of a hassle for everybody involved…including the Venezuelans (who paid 1.5 billion$ for these beautiful sukhois!). Just think, if the Venezuelans get the new export model Su-35s in the future…they would have an incredible capability to both defend their own air-space and attack targets on land and sea all over the region…

yeah, especially with anti-ship missiles like the Kh-31A and BVRAAMs like R-77…I mean, if these Sukhois get a full weapons deal ala other Flanker users…other S. American air forces, especially the Colombians, will have alot of problems attaining air-superiority in a conflict with the Bolivarian Republic…and, since Putin is really ticked at Bush right now, it wouldn’t be surprising.

The Saudi air force has had a string of similar incidents…it sure seems like the UAE, with the F-16 Block 60 and Mirage-2009, has the best AF in the GCC now… (though I know the hose of saud has alot more airframes!)

Amazing pictures!!! Man the Su-30MKV looks awesome in those…they dont seem to have any weapons on-board yet, I wonder if the Venezuelans will be getting the R-77 and all the A-G gear (Kh-29TE, Kab-500kr/L, Kab-1500, Kh-31A/P, Kh-59ME) that the PLA got? if they do then the AMV will have (at least on paper) some very sharp teeth for a South American nation…
