Supposedly the Scorpene repalcement will be the Marlin (under design for Pakistan)
Last I heard the decision was between 4 C-17 and 8 A400 with a decision due in May….
Any ideas on weights (missiles, warhead), speeds and missile range for the either the AAM-4 and AAM-5?
The item above the cockpit is the ESM antenna.
When do the AAM-4 and AAM-5 enter service though?
Is the UAB-1500 in service with Russian forces? There is a smaller UAB-500 version as well:
http://www.janes.com/defence/air_forces/news/jdw/jdw000626_1_n.shtml
Any range and warhead weight figures for the UAB-500 and UAB-1500 bombs? Any idea, when or if they have entered service?
Similar questions for the gliding PBK-500U dispenser, any ideas on range and guidance method (if any?)?
ISTR Armada magazine claiming the original SPBE-D cluster bomb entered service in the late 1980s or early 1990s. This would be before the similar US CBU-97 SFW…..
ISTR its ADF procurement practice to have a viable backup in case the favoured system fails. In the case of the AWD its the unmodified F100.
Wedgetail backup was C-130J/APS-145.
The Mirage 2000-5 Mk II can be fitted with ICMS Mk 3. This can detect and jam AAM mid-course datalinks. This’d probably decrease the R-77 or AMRAAM datalink.
Rafale would probably have a similar capability……
AFAIK Australia is thinking of an airframe life extension for the existing Orions. So the P-8 is probably out of the picture for budget reasons – at the same time as new maritime aircraft are required they need new fighters, new air warfare destroyers, etc. They’ve just gone through an avionics update in any case.
There is talk of a wing kit for the Mk 54 torpedo. This can be dropped from altitude, avoiding the need for dropping to low altitude for weapon launches. I guess you’d still need to go low to drop sonobuoys……
F-16C with recon pod
Combat Fleets of the World and Janes Fighting Ships reported that one of the Radjut-class destroyers was fitted with 16 SS-N-25 missiles in place of the 4 SS-N-2. This supposedly took place in 2001.
Did this ever go ahead?
Any idea whether the Italian or planned Japanese KC-767 can themselves be refuelled?
Anyone have photos of the Italian (top forward fuselage)?
The SA-12 has not yet been exported.
Not exactly. Antey-2500 (S-300VM) is the SA-X-23.
SO whats the SA-X-21 and SA-X-22 then? 🙂
Iraqi aircraft
Heres some info I have on the Iraqi Mirage F1. Its from the web, and various books:
16 F.1EQ fighters with Cyrano IV-1 radar from April 1981
16 F1EQ-2 fighters with Cyrano IV-2 radar with ground mapping mode, delivered 1981.
28 F1EQ-4 – as F1EQ-2 with inflight refueling probes, buddy refueling store, COR-2 recon pods. Delivered 1982-84.
20 F.1EQ-5 – as F1EQ-4 with Cyrano IV-M radar with sea search and air to ground ranging, AM.39 Exocet capability. Delivered 1983-85.
11 F.1EQ-6 – as F.1EQ-5 with Cyrano IV-MR radar with terrain avoidance added. AS30L, AM.39, Super 530D, Magic 2. Delivered 1988, further 5 not delivered.
F1EQ-7. 12 planned of unknown equipment standard, none delivered due to non-payment.
Mar 85: Exocet operational.
1989: F1EQ-6 fitted with Kh-29L [AS-14 Kedge].
1991: 50 of 113 lost, also said to be 29 in 1980s, 10 shot down in 1991, 24 flown to Iran. This leaves less than 28.
Supposedly the Cyrano IV-1 radar had poor look down performance over land. Some sources say the Mirage F1EQ-5 has Agave not Cyrano with sea search mode. Anyone have something definite on this?
I’m a little unsure on the F.1EQ-6 with Magic 2 and Super 530D – can anyone confirm these weapons?
Any ideas on what the F1EQ-7 equipment fit was?
Any additional info?
