Please send Link to Messrs Blair and Brown, who are currently looking for a pair of second hand biz jets. And they’re British!
Bruce
Great idea – but not nearly grandeoise enough for President Blair.
Supprised they’re not talking about resurrecting a Concorde…….
As it stands – they’re bound to be Boeings as Blair’s in Bush’s pocket.
Interesting – the 4 engine flying boat (Coronado?) in the later shots has 4 bladed props in the inners but only 3 bladers on the outers. They seem to be similar diameters, so are the inner engines more powerful? Or failing that – what’s the reason ?
Are the Shacks parked at the east or west end of the current apron ?
When I visited in the mid 90’s they were at the western end – photographable through a car park fence.
Yes – the French twin looks like a Flamant
Fantastic.
It’s great to see this Carvair still flying.
Is N89FA the one that used to be yellow/white? I saw it engineless at Griffin in 1995 while in the States on business 🙂 It’s unfortunate silver sister (N83FA?) was active at the time. I was really pleased to see 89 as I’d first seen this one as a kid in the UK as G-ASHZ. Long may she fly!
I think you have to look at the period. My father had just left 42 Sqn when the accident happened and the attitude as I recall was very much one of acceptance……..
Yeah – fair point.
This issue with the engine that was discovered – presumably the trawler recovered the engine so that it could be identified as the starboard outer of one of the Shacks by it’s serial no. ? Those trawler nets must be strong – a Griffin weighs in at about a ton for the basic engine.
I think it was 11 years after the event – so why bother?.
To try and confirm/discount the accident theory of course – it was only a theory that they collided. The theory is purely circumstantial based on the fact neither plane returned.
Perhaps I’m being naive in assuming there was the motive/will within the RAF once a report had been written on the incident to investigate further. I’d expect relatives to kick up a bit of a fuss though.
Intriguing story 🙂
So – no second search was made after the engine was found by the trawler?
I don’t believe the Viscount in Stoney Cove is G-AOJC – the machine in Stoney Cove is a former BMA machine which was sunk in the 1970’s there.
Yes, David – I think you’re right. One diving site quotes this as being G-AWXI. So – any idea where G-AOJC is ?
At twenty times magnification the alterations are everywhere, just take a look at the top edge of the spine and the hood, the angle of the spine is too straight and flat , the outside edge has a tell tail halo of pixels all the way round, The nose section also has digital touch marks all around it, and the tell tale halo of lighter pixels all around it.
I’m no expert, but aren’t those features just standard jpeg ‘artifacts’ due to the compression that jpeg use? You see them around sharp edges in jpegs when magnified.
Hmmm – some sort of short stubby bi-plane would be my guess. There seems to a cockpit and in front of that attachments for a parasol type wing (upper wing on a bipe?). Obviously radial engined with a big fat metal fuz. If indeed it’s a plane 😀
Can anyone read the writing?
Sure it’s a plane ?…… not a submarine (half in jest – the camel & desert settingmake a sub unlikely :-))
Or:
Ohh – pull UP at the under you said ??
Know what his 1st name is?
The electoral register for the UK in 2003 gives one E P Smooker, living in county Durham. This of course assumes a) he’s still alive, and b) he’s living in the UK – hence my question about his 1st name.
Watching the vid – it’s clear there’s a gusty crosswind, but he seemed to do a lot of very quick pitch up movements on short final…. was that just the wind or what?
…..groan 😉
