Very interesting interview with former Iraqi Defense Minister (2006-2010).
-Iraq compared Apache, Mi-28 and Tiger, and selected the Mi-28.
-Politicians are trying to sabotage arms deals with Russia, but the minister says they will not succeed.
-Iraq contacted Russia for rushed fighter delivery- the two sides agreed to fast delivery of 8 planes by June 2013. These might be MiG-29Ms from the Syrian contract
-During the negotiations, the Iraqis pointed out 7 specific systems they are interested in: Pantsir-S1 and Tor-M2E, BMP-3, Su-30MK2 and MiG-29M, Mi-17V-5 and Mi-28NE. The first part of the contract was valued at 4.5 billion dollars.
-Because of the noise started by politicians over the deal with Russia, future large scale arms programs will not be publicized by the military.

again.. why no Hokum in the competition 🙁
I hope Su-30MK2 would win but US will push F-16.

New airplanes with a new support infrastructure are expensive.

If MiG-31 has lots of airframe life remaining, enhancing military capability and reducing support cost by replacing old kit with new is definitely the best course of action.

or how about replacing it with an upgraded version of another aircraft.
Su-30 series could do most of the MiG-31’s role

The Russian Mig-29 with two R-27R under left wing in post #322 is not a baseline izd.9.12/ 9.13, one can clearly see that…;) It is a RSK Mig own test aircraft demonstrating upgraded missile capability for Mig-29 users….

you must excuse Emily, she doesn’t know the difference between operational aircraft and test models, or even variants between them.

At the risk of sounding obtuse, I don’t have any idea what you are talking about….??

Would you mind clarifying a bit more?

I just thought you enjoyed talking about trainer aircraft that is all. feel free to contribute or not. be nice if you would

I like the fixed wing Tornado.

Here are a couple of Phantom-hybrids. The first uses a Mirage front end. (Realistically it would have had to use small engines like the Adours.) The second is a Tornado front end which is more in line with the size of the original Phantom.

    the mirage is horrible
but the Tornado looks just right, as if it was meant to make babies with a phantom.

Can you do a stealthy Draken next? 🙂

flight global yesterday says the US is broke, can’t afford T-X.

perhaps its time for Goshawk version 2 to win!

    J-31,

How does a training aircraft thread affect me exactly?

I thought you enjoyed talking about trainers

An airshow during weapons trials on the Vikra?

    Ok then lol.
They fitted those weapons on it just for Zvezda journalists, surely not to as part of the MIG-29K testing process.

I’m not the one who made the comment that the above news picture of the mig on the Vikra is an airshow layout.

But, weapons trials load out is not necessarily the same as an operational load out anyways. That mig probably doesn’t need the same amount of fuel tanks if any because its just flying to test weapons, not flying to some target to drop bombs (because we’re on the subject of air to ground).
Apparently some people think that fighter jets can do bombing runs with out fuel tanks, yet most people, even those living in a cave know most modern fighters don’t have that range unless its a Flanker.
But them we have people like Emily who believe every airshow model they see, perhaps they too need to stop spending too much time in their caves stroking their Turkic birds.

hey look here’s a bunch of stuff hanging off an Su-35.. does that mean its fully integrated.. noo

    http://www.ausairpower.net/VVS/Su-35BM-Jan-07-Presentation-1.jpg

To the MiG-29’s credit I believe the carrier version will eventually have all those things fully integrated solely because it has the support of Indian funding.

    The new Russian destroyer.
Putin himself helped design it, and 20 are to be built before 2020.

that’s the most beautiful ship…. model. i’ve ever seen.

I see so the LR means long range.

so what’s the trade off with this version? less passenger? heavier?
if the engines are that much better, why offer the older version.

    What’s kind of problem?

    So does MiG-29.

Between real operational configurations and what?
Do you mean the configration of MiG-29 in air show merely was a mockup?

As you can see what were F-18 able to carry, that MiG-29 can load as well even more.
    4×1500L + 1×1900 for MiG-29 vs 5×1400L for F-18A/B/C/D:D

Who were talking about Kagril conflict. You conflict has nothing to do with the truth of maximum payload for MiG-29 vs F-18. An aircraft could carry gun only to join an action or achieve a mission. Also an aircraft with single gun doesn’t mean its full payload.

And which airshow this one were in?

Other member already show you similar load in flight.

A demonstration is also an operation, which perhaps you don’t know.

at least three people have called you out. learn the difference between operational load and an airshow.

Looks like PAF did lose one of its SAAB AEW&C aircraft in the strike on its AFB.

The PAF denied it initially, judging it by the posts earlier on in this thread (August 2012) but now the details are out.

    http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-159025-Tax-payers-kept-in-the-d…

Unlike the P3Cs lost in the Mehran attack, this is a more serious event as this aircraft is unlikely to be replaced for free as the P3Cs reportedly were, by the US (albeit PN may have lost the upgrade costs?)

Plus reports on the net suggest that another AEW&C was also damaged in the raid, and was sent to Sweden for repairs, this aircraft being the one the PAF initially admitted to.

Pakistan needs to send all these pashtuns back to Afghanistan and all the Americans back into China.

TURKEY IS WORKING ON ITS OWN FIGHTER

Turkish experts commissioned by the Air Force working on the draft of the first domestic fighter, trying to technically look 20 years ahead. As the newspaper writes, “Haber Turk”, a group of “brainstorming” the fundamental principles and characteristics of advanced combat vehicle, the ITAR-TASS . Of the six proposed conceptual models Force selected three, work on the design that will continue until the end of the year, after which it will go to the designers approval to the Secretariat of the defense industry. The specialists have a difficult task – to predict the level of technological development in 2030 in order to create a modern competitive aircraft. engineers and military experts believe that after the 2030 air link will consist of a single fighter with a pilot and four unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs ). In this version of the fighter being developed with two pilots. One will be responsible for the proper management of combat vehicle, the second pilot will control the UAV. It is assumed that in the 30 years of this century will be received technical ability to effectively block communication with unmanned ground command posts, so the current will be a matter of managing these devices directly into the air. Experts offer sheathing body armor fighter based on compounds with boron. Such armor has been used for quite some time, and in the USSR in the 1970s, began investigating the properties of this element as the basis for reservation of military equipment. Boron, as noted by Turkish engineers, provides a number of advantages in comparison with other substances. Boric armor lighter, has a sufficient density and provides adequate protection. It can withstand high temperatures, which allows booking engine. In addition, the composite armor with boron has the effect of invisibility to radar facility. choice towards the use of boron is not accidental. According to experts, 72 percent. of the world’s boron is in Turkey. This was enough for the needs of the world in this element for 450 years. particular problem for Turkish experts is the engine. In order to develop a jet engine “from scratch” would take about 30 years. For this reason, the first Turkish fighter plans to raise import engines simultaneously engaging in the development of domestic. “Haber Turk,” notes that the Turkish developers are going to negotiate the purchase of engines from major manufacturers from the U.S., Europe and Russia. But in contrast to the power plant on the fighter radar may well be our own. Local defense companies have “stuffed hand” and suggest the army competitive technologies. Modernization and procurement of military equipment is being held by the Turkish army on the condition of machinery equipment as possible domestic units and systems. In recent years Turkey has been actively considering the issue of revitalization of the local defense industry and the replacement of foreign (NATO) technology to domestic counterparts. In particular, recently presented the first working concept of main battle tank has been tested light training aircraft, unmanned vehicles have been tested in competition with Israeli and American models. Turkey also participates in the fifth generation fighter F-35. In this case, the aircraft will be found a large number of fuselage and engine of Turkish origin. Actively develop the creation of original rockets and tracking systems.

lol there goes slowman’s assumption that Turkey will return to kfx.
