Shipdham airfield is not to far away from Cranworth so might be a poss connection.
Thinking about it, before the 44th arrived at shipdham in 1942-43 the was briefly a sterling group based there and i believe also some fighters very briefly so it could be connected. thanks for the information. does anyone know where i can look to find out all the information?
Hi,
An accident towing a drogue in an air firing exercise. He crashed in the sea while flying a Martinet of 11 OTU. Date is shown in Errol Martyn’s books as 19 June.
it might seem a daft question, but why his he buried at Cranworth 40 miles from the sea???
i Seem to recall the pilot was taking part in target practice a few weeks before the end of the war and flew into the sand bank.
those are the two aircraft near watton and the p47 i am after do you have anymore details please ?
i have just ordered a copy of this book thank you for pointing me in the right direction 🙂
i Am also after details on a P-47 crash near swaffham i belive it crashed in the grounds of a private estate near North pickenham after being struck by lightning!
when i was younger my father took me to the crash site it is aronud a mile out of mildenhall, wilts in the corner of a field.

if i do not reply straight away i am away all week but will come back to you.
As you drive from Dereham to Fakenham, just before you reach the Mileham crossroads there is a bungalow set back from the road on the right, look behing it and you can see an aircraft under a tarp i belive there is also a small hanger behind the house as well- dont know if it is used though!
to change the thread just a little does anyone know anything about a lightning sttod behind a house near Mileham in Norfolk, i have seen it several times over the years always under a tarp and if memory serves me right there is also another aircraft there as well?
i have always wondered about this any info anybody ?
