Interesting thread. I read ‘Lancaster’ by – Leo ??? last year on holiday and the question also rose in my head too…
If you had access to a fast, pinpoint strike aircraft that could even knock down targets like prison walls – why continue throwing hundreds of heavies night after night if Mossies could have accomplised the job?
Was it the level of training needed for low-level strike?
The fact you probably would have to do it in daylight? (light flak + fighters?)
Or as someone has suggested, would Mossie losses have climbed to matcah the main force…?
