That’s correct Mike. They adjusted the cheatline with a curve, it will look great on the 787 as well.
21. Thanks for this great flight.
22. The iconic number 2 engine.
24. There also was some time to photograph another MD-11 that also left the KLM fleet, the PH-KCB Named Maria Montessori. And also PH-PBA, a DC-3 in KLM colors named Prinsess Amalia.
31. And one last look on the PH-KCD from the platform.
32. I also spotted the second flight comming in runway 18R (with backlight).
33. And the last one ending my first and last MD-11 adventure. Really want to thank all the parties involved making this possible for us.
Maikel
Good photo’s! I was a passenger onboard flight KL9895 the first one of the day. I must give a lot of credits to all the people involved organising this special event. Here are some photo’s from my side.
1. The screen showing the three flight for today.
2. Passengers were bussed toward R77 where the PH-KCD was being prepared for the one hour flight in Dutch airspace.
3. My seat was 8D in economy comfort, no window unfortunately but plenty of legroom.
5. Departure runway was 18C. Soon as the seatbelt sign was switched off the chaos began. Here is a wingview.
6. Special food for this event.
8. Making a lot of photo’s while I still can.
9. It was a flight to say a family member farewell but there was also time to celebrate.
12. Nice routing mainly at or arround 2000ft.
14. The crew was really friendly and enjoyed their time onboard the aircraft.
18. Also a lot of Dutch news channels were on the flight.
19. We landed firmly on runway 18C and after a short taxi we ended our flight where we started.
Lovely shots. Still not seen that Tarom retro :apologetic:
To be honnest, this was the first time I actually made a picture of the plane. 😀
A great report, Maikel, with some brilliant pictures as well. I experienced the Dreamliner for the first time last month – flying to and from Guangzhou with China Southern Airlines. The electronic dimming windows kept me amused for most of the 11-12 hour legs!
Thanks for your reply, I really enjoyed the flight and 6-7 isn’t really that long when you are in a good aircraft. The China Southern Airlines 787 is one of the best looking 787 liveries arround with those nice wong on the fuselage. Electronic dimming function is a nice touch, the inflight entertainment was also very good with large screens and a lot of options.

Thanks for your comment! The 757 really is a nice aircraft, I also like the 300 series (non US off course) a lot, but you don’t see those a lot here. Shame that the US Airways livery will disappear, it’s always a nice visitor to see. I also enjoyed seeing them in SXM during the summer (photo’s are still a work in progress so stay tuned).
In this case it’s a good sign, the plane is being used while they still can. Sadly KLM is phasing out these beauties, this example was delivered in 1997. A young age to leave for the desert….
Nice selection and it’s seems your mission was successful. Frankfurt almost got 5 flight a day including ET(delayed 30 july)/AI/NH/QR(2x) maybe an idea for your next hunt.
If the wind is less then 5 knots on ground level they will always use the 27’s. The wind this day were comming from the south with 4 knots, so that’s a crosswind but nothing to worry about. Later on pilots of final approach complained that the wind from 1000ft to 300ft was a 10 knot tail wind. So I think that’s why they changed to the 09’s and later on when the wind settled they took over the 27’s again. Thanks for the replies!
16. Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 777-300ER, AP-BHV with the beacon.
17. Swiss International Airlines Airbus A319, HB-IPV.
18. JAL Boeing 777-300ER, JA732J.
19.
20. Cathay Pacific Boeing 747-400, B-HUB.
21. Kuwait Airways Airbus A300, 9K-AME.
22. And the last one to end my trip at London Heathrow, this Lufthansa Boeing 737-300, D-ABEN in the sunshine.
I would like to thanks you all for the replies and watching my photos.
I really have no clue, maintenance maybe? It’s also not showing on: http://casperflights.com/ very strange.
16. Landing runway again changed, first 27R again and about 45 minutes later 27L.
17.
18. During the switch from 27R to 27L we caught a Biman Bangladesh Boeing 777-300ER.
19.
20 Always a great sight to see a China Southern in nice sun light. A regular visitor at Amsterdam, here it’s a 3 weekly visitor. From the end of October China Southern is stepping up its “The Canton Route” plan, with a service increase from 3 weekly to daily. In the future this will certainly be a A380 destination for them.
21. I couldn’t resist….
22. A JAL Boeing 777-300ER on finals runway 27L.
23. Korean Air HL8217 Boeing 777-300ER.
24. Sun was going down again in the west, lighting op the fan blades of the RR Trent 895.
25. Etihad Airways A6-EHJ Airbus A340-642 in Formula 1 scheme.
26. We also tried some night spotting at the fence but we couldn’t find a good spot. Next time we will check in a stepladder at the odd size desk (just kidding).
27. I had to blink twice but this really is British Airways Boeing 737-436, G-DOCO at LHR.
Thanks again for watching and I’m working on the photos of the 20th, stay tuned. And @MSR777 that promised triple is a work in progress;)
31. I really like the reflection on the fuselage.
32. And the last one to end this day
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more!
16. Pakistan Operates the 200 and 300 variant into LHR.
17. One of the few carriers that flies the Embraer to LHR, I’ve only seen LOT with a E190.
18. Fantastic scheme on this Royal Jordanian Airbus A330-200.
19. On the Airbus A310 it looks even better!
20. Heathrow really is triple heaven.
21. Royal Air Maroc Boeing 767-300.
22. One of the smartest looking B777 around.
23. One of the few cargo planes at LHR.
24.
25. Jet Airways with a nice reflection on the fuselage.
26. When the sun goes down in the east, the nose really gets a spotlight.
27. This Air India Boeing 777-300 was behind an Etihad Airbus A340-600. Because the A340-600 is so long the tail of the Airbus wasn’t clear of the runway in time, forcing this beauty to go-around. Those GE’s sounded like a present from heaven.
28. There she goes!
29. Cockpit crew really needs their sunglasses.
30. Then it was time to leave towards our hotel, when we walked past the approach lights we saw that the Korean triple was on the approach.
