When Ted Kennedy figures on the list for his vociferous opposition to Bush administration and its misadventures abroad, calling the iraq war a fraud, this issue cannot be trivilized as some bureaucrats running wild. This proves that this administration has been the most beligerant, spiteful, juvenilely vindictive and in muslims’ case quintessentially bigoted of all and not genuinely interested in preserving safety and protecting americans. The only modus operandi the administration is inclined to follow is very well reminiscent of the gestapo going after its perceived political opponents.
I hardly think putting a retired pop singer on a “Do not enter” list justifies the comparison of U.S. actions with the Gestapo!!!
To even say such a thing belittles the memory of those killed in fighting the Nazi regime.
Thanks
When assigned to RAF Bent/waters (the / is to avoid the censors) I became interested in the area.
To all the brain washed supporters of the current Crusade in the M.E. do catch a little known flick called “Control Room”. This will show how the coverage of the profoundly just war against the teethless and largely worn out Iraq, was sugar coated, completely misleading and untruthful.
Hey Che,
How do you know the film was trurthful? Most films are fiction and even documentaries, reflect the filmmaker’s viewpoint. Ask Michael Moore. Even he will admit to having an agenda and telling the “afcts” as he sees them to make a point.
Let me get this straight, you want to convince me the media lies by showing me a story done by someone else. If you don’t trust journalists, why would you trust a film maker? Does’t a film director shift facts to suit the story?
It seems a cynical viewpooint like yours (and your friends who are always ranting about the US media being a puppet of…choose one: 1. The government,2. “big business” or 3. “the Jews”), you’d be better off not trusting, or listening to anyone.
Remember, your namesake knew how to spin a story.
The American media brought down a President (Nixon) and have crippled several others. I defy you to prove your Eurocentric impression about the American media when all you know about it is what your are told by people with axes to grind.
Getting off airplane matters but still on subject, did Bawdsy (sp?) in Suffolk play a role in the battle or was it just a R & D facility?
I see.
So, we’re not qualified to discuss what we see in the US media, but you’re qualified to comment on what you believe the UK media say, without having actually seen it.
Now I believe you’re a journalist…… :diablo:
Thanks for the compliment!
I don’t know what you see of the US media…I believe you believe what you’re TOLD about the media.
Hehehe, oh please, give us a break!!!!!
I thought I’d liven up the board with some sophisticated humor.
Glad it’s a hit down under… 🙂
Slightly off the topic but Swadar Plastic Comany madea neat platic toy of the XC-120 back in the 50’s…complete with removeable pod. Molded in clear plasic to show the trucks, tanks, etc. inside. You can see them occasionally on ebay.
Anybody make a C-82 kit?…It might be a better basis for the conversion, but I don’t klnow of an injection kit or a vacuform for that matter.
Attention Airbus fans!!!
There are also reports that Mount Ranier near Seattle is also overdue for a major eruption. Fact.
Airbusses reportedly have been sighted dumping laxitives into the dormant volcano’s crater. Conjecture. 🙂
Beautiful!!!
As well as enjoying the planes, I always like looking at England from the air…no place else looks like it.
Hogan’s Heroes has been released here in NZ on one of those massive sets by Time/Life Video. They advertise it heaps and on the advert there’s a quick shot of a plane flying over Stalag 13 real low, in light blue with mottled grey Luftwaffe scheme. I’ve wondered for ages what it was. It looks like a Miles Messnger – would there have been any of these in the USA at the time of filming? I love Hogan’s Heroes – Shultz is so cool.
Dave, I can’t think of any Miles being in the U.S. back then, unless our friends at Tallmantz had one (heck, they had one of just about everythging else…including a D.H. Dragonfly!!!).
But my memory tells me it was an Ercoupe…but then again, I havent seen the episode in 20+ years….I’ll gladly admit I could be wrong.
My uncle, a former B-24 navigator who spent time as a “guest” in a Stalag Luft, found the series somewhat humorous. And like Shultz, he said some guards were okay…
BTW – unless you have daily access to all European news outlets then – by your very own logic – you’re not qualified to comment on their content or editorial policies, are you?
Disagree, the fact that most U.K. papers have a political position, is well known. You know as well as I do that the Guardian, the Mail, The Indepndent all have their positions.
I did NOT say anthing that requires me to read or monitor the UK media on a daily basis….unlike your and Flood’s charges on the American media.
The link is from an American media outlet: since they all backed the war in Iraq – for good or bad – they have all become a laughing stock amongst the worlds media for blindly following the words of their countrys leader. As if that was not bad enough they don’t even investigate if there is any truth in these press release but just take them as being honest from the off. Wasn’t it Dan Rather (or somebody) who blindly annouced a memo about Bush and his national guard record before eventually admitting that he hadn’t actually investigated its facts?
He was probably arrested in Israel purely because he was bringing more attention to the Palestinians; nothing unusual there…

You may know somthing about airplanes. And being an Englishman, you’re probably a nice guy to have a pint with at the local pub. But when it comes to American journalism, you’re a fool.
In America, unlike the U.K., media outlets TRY (not always successfully) to tell the facts and let the public sort out the information. They try not to back or not back a war.
ABC is a respected news organization, and to imply that’s it’s a press conduit for the U.S. government is wrong. All 5 major US news outlets…(okay at least 4 of the 5…Rupert Murdoch’s Fox, I’m not sure about) have been pretty harsh on various aspects of the war. But unlike European journalism, where outlets make a public stance of their political leanings, American media outlets don’t.
So unless you have all American channels on satellite, I don’t think you’re qualified to speak on American journalism. And before you ask, I am…I have a university degree in journalism as well as a masters degree in mass communications…and yes, I work as a journalist for a ABC affiliate.
Could this be it?
This was on the set at Universal Studios when I photographed in 1988.

If it was was/is part of a permanent display for their theme park, with the value of a real flying Goose, I bet its a hulk or mockup.
The flying Goose used in “Tales of the Gold Monkey” was advertised in Trade-a-Plane” a few years ago.
And also at Universal Studios Hollywood, when I went through there in 1990 there was a nice X-2 mockup used in an episode of “Quantum Leap” and a T-33….maybe from the “A Gathering of Eagles” film.
Thanks for the info, CM
It’s an amazing photo, in the fact that it represents 3 completely different generations of maritime patrolling.
The Sunderland looks like a real antique in the company of the other 2 aircraft!!! 😮

I hate to disagree but the Martin and Lockheed are closer in time than you might think.
Without checking exact dates, I’d say the Marlin and Neptune are both from the same time period…though the later Marlin with the “T” tail does look newer than the P-2. It’s basic design is immediate post war but it’s an evolution of the WWII Martin Mariner.
Anyone remember Tales of the Golden Monkey from the early 80s. I was only about 5 years old, and seem to recall a red and white Grumman Goose playing a starring role…
When the National Air & Space Museum had their restored Goose on display a few years ago, they had a TV nearby showing stock footage from the series. It was credited to Universal Studios.
