Tell that to the dead pilots

Not even the Cuban emigres make the latter claim any more, pluto77189, so what’s your source for such a statement?
Is it the fact that Castro is a “Communist” that makes him An Evil Man, unlike US-backed dictators who really did murder those who spoke out against them – such as Pinochet?

Ask the pilots of the two Cessna Skymasters shot down by MiG 23 in international airspace a few years back They were part of an anti-Castro group of Cubans flying out of Florida partoling the sea for refugees. A MiG downed them. A MiG againbst two unarmed planes…not a fair fight
I believe the International Court ruled against Cuba in the matter and awarded damages to the widows.

And I’m sure in the history of U.K. foreign policy it NEVER did anything shady…look at your imperialist history.
the U.S. did some underhanded things to fight communism…but it fought it and today, largely to U.S. actions (and money) Eastern Europe is free. The ends justify the means…sometimes. If not, how does the U.K. justify all the dead German civilians killed in Bomber Command raids against population centers?

    Quit your *****ing

    Only one comment here:
One more sad measure taken by this brilliant  Pres. Shrub. to add on my growing list of stupid actions! Hey, maybe they can make a new sequal on Farenheit 9/11.
    J.V.

    Geforce & Stieglitz….
If you don’t like Bush don’t vote for him!
    Oh yeah, your from Belgium.
Quit insulting another countries elected leader.
Come over here, become a citizen, then you’ve earned the right to gripe!!!

And if you knew American history half as much as you think you do, you’d know that American sanctions against Cuba habve been in effect for 45 years…under both liberal and conservative presidents.

Back in the 80s the world called for economic sanctions against South Africa to change its racist policies….and that was seen as a good thing by most of the world….and it eventually worked. Later the U.N. had economic sanctions against Iraq as punishment for it not allowing WMD inspections.
When the U.S. does it against a dictator it’s seen as bad.
    Why the double standard?

I understand the sub withthe 262 blueprints was sunk, so they developed their jet pretty much on their own.

    Less money

Embraer is impressive! 58 planes and $7 billion!
I believe this the largest US DoD aerospace contract for a company outside the US and not coming from the UK/Western Europe.

Remember the $7 billion is for the entire project. The electronics in each plane will probably cost more than the airframe itself.
So Embraer will be getting much lerss than the $7 billion…
Whats the price of a ERJ….25 million?
    25 x 58 is 1.450 billion…plus spares, training and support…lets say $2 billion.
Still not a bad piece of work.

A great piece of art. You have more airlift capability than many air forces!

I think Continental Airlines is the main user of the type.

Also American Eagle..the regional affiliate of American. They’ve bought a bunch.
Their maintenance base is here and the airport is littered with 30 discarded Saab 340s…

    EMB RJs…

I’ve flown in the Regional Jet version of the plane…it seemed very nice.
And I’ve heard they have excellent customer support in the U.S.

TSR 2 WOULD IT HAVE BEEN IN SERVICE?

Awhille back I posed the question on the Current Military Section…that is If the TSR 2 was produced, would it have been any good or would advances in weapons, air defense systems, tactics, etc. have made it obsolete before its time?

The same question could be applied to another cancelled plane whose attributes have grown through the years…the CF-105 Arrow.
Would/could it have become more than just a high speed interceptor and evolved into a practical multi-mission aircraft?

As an example, as much as I liked the look of the XB-70, in retrospect, the Kennedy administration cancelling it was probably a good decision because of the change of tactics to low level penatration.

As much as it pains me to admit it…sometimes politicians are right. Sometimes, they just mess up a program…witness the F-111.

John my point was to say that in the US (and in Europe too) some people consider as indecent breath nudity but are ok with a society which generates people sleeping in cardbaord beds in the streets. This is the real indecency
    from my point of view.

Agree. Some people are agitated by the sight of bare breasts.
Others are excited by them in other ways!

My wife want’s to take me to Nice and the Monaco G.P. for my birthday next year.
I’ve never been to a topless beach…I’m afraid if I go I’ll see more 50+ year old German housewives than Claudia Schiffer (sp?) lookalikes.

Some people can’t stand a breast picture on a T-shirt but are confortable with homeless people begging in the streets. Its unfortunately not an US specific problem even if the ultra-something are more powerful and well structured there.

Yes, the US is prude….sometimes it’s bad or stupid, even hypocritical, other times it preserves a semblance of good taste (as an example I think some BBC shows really try to be in bad taste just to prove they can.)

This is not to say I’m against the female breast…far from it. I’m a big fan.

As far as the rest of your post, I’m not sure what you are trying to say.
In London, I see panhandlers too. And I probably would in Paris.
The USA does have rich people. Just like other places.
If you want to compare the “Have & have not’s”… I suggest taking a look at places like Mexico and India.
From what I’ve seen of the “third world” I can say that even poor Americans live better than most people in those countries.

Is the U.S. perfect, far from it.
But when my European friends commenet about the U.S. I ask them to remember, the U.S. is never going to like Europe.
It’s a county made of of different cultures..(the way European counties are now changeing due to immigration). It’s never going to have many of the attitudes found in the rest of the world. Remember, it’s a young country, we’ve all been in pubs that are older than any buildings in North America.:)
It’s a very different place, and despite having the same language as the U.K. it’s a different culture.

If Treat Williams can do it then I’m sure Tom can as well, just as soon as he finishes that little movie where an American pilot wins the Battle of Britain.

After the BoB he bombs Tokyo (despite having never flown a B-25)…oh, it’s already been done. Never mind…Okay, let’s have him head up a special USAAF unit that bombs German dams….:)

The dog should have been taught to just say “No” in addition to “sit”, “stay”…:)
