Unintended rescue aircraft
A former Chief of Staff of the USAF…was rescued in Vietnam by a AH-1 Cobra gunship. The pilot lowered the gun ammo door and told the AF hitchhiker to hold on.
.
Did Canada build and use Tigers or did they rely on a US design for elementary flying (I know much of their advanced flying was US types such as Cessna Bobcats/Cranes and Harvards and Yales)
Cheers
Dave
In addition to Tiger Moths, Canada also used U.S. designed Stearmans bi-planes (PT-13, 17,and the PT-27 with canopies) as well as open cockpit Fairchild Cornells (PT-19, 23…and the PT-26 with canopies).
The Fairchilds were also built in Canada by Fleet.
Do you have a link?
Sorry, no. It was taped by a local Dallas TV station and fed to us via CNN.
Overhere, I dare to say that 90% of the “press” I see at Dutch airshows consist of spotters who made their own press id’s in their computer. So, I am afraid their is a loth of truth in the complains some have. Like their are “bogus” “veterans” at many veteran events, there are many “bogus” press at airshow. Can’t help it.

As a former USAF public affairs officer in the U.K., I’ve got to agree that we got a lot of phoney requests for media credentials.
It seemed that everyone who had ever read FlyPast and had a camera wanted special access, calling themselves a freelancer.
As an “enthusiast” myself, I was a sympathetic and tried my best to help out the spotters, etc., but many of my colleagues were quickly soured by all the frauds. Which made it that much harder for the actual media people.
Holy goats!!!
Assuming you’re not “having a leg-pull”….
For some reason, this part of Texas is an important goat region.
I’ve done several stories on goats and the people who love them….
I’ve seen one stand on the roof of an derelict car outside a farmhouse.
Weird animals.
Try this site from the Univesity of California at Irvine….
Hmmm. OK, time for a thread hijack. “Take this thread to Cuba…” No, not that one.
Soooo. If it WASN”T a Ju52, what could it have been?
Ford Trimotor
Savoia Marchetti Sm79.My, they are pulling the stops out at Legends this annum…
Any other guesses?
How about an Upside down Ford Tri-Motor? 🙂
Wasn’t it NATO?
When america was having the “war” with Serbia why didnt we attack there home land? Please someone tell me why we werte in a conflict that doesnt concern america?
I was under the impression that NATO got the U.S. involved. Remember, the U.S. president at the time was the liberal Mr. Clinton…and he can’t be viewed the same way Europe views Mr. Bush…no ties to the oil industry.
Liberals in America and Europe have been complaing that the U.S. waited too long to enter the conflict. The conservatives complain U.S. forces are still there.
Repeat after me…when in doubt …Blame America.
Dog eat dog
My first ever dog was a Dalmatian – best dogs you can get. He was a superb guard and nearly killed two Alsatians at once in a fight.
A late score:
Dalmations: 101
Alsatians: 44
🙂
Maybe they’ll cut…
Yup. But they will probably find a way around it. Didnt the 757 have a weight problem too? (I may be wrong). Airbus arent stupid (although I wonder sometimes), I cant see it being a failure before its first flight. They will cut things down. Less lavatories, less bar equipment… aircraft manufacturers normally find a way.
I’d be surprised if many (if any) of those neat things hinted at by Airbus and its customers…a gym, duty free shops, showers, etc. ever show up. Remember the spiral staircase and piano lounge in the first 747s?
Airlines will just cram more fares inside.
Intelligence
get yourself a cat – you wont see them bringing your stick back, far to inteligent 😉
Mine used to be called ‘Spitfire’ – original I know!
I think you mean “too intelligent”. 🙂
Douglas the basset.
A nice film related collection of aircraft there – two BofB film Heinkels, a Mossie from 633 Sqn and a M*A*S*H* helicopter.
FYI…it’s a late model Bell 47G-3….note the oversize fuel tanks.
Judging by the tanks and paint scheme..should be mid-late 60s.
What, no Mustang jokes?
I’m surprised no one has made the obvious joke of doctoring a photo of a
P-51 and calling it a Ford Mustang.
Between 1979-82 I had a 79 Mustang..its license plate number? “P-51” (Idaho plate). I once had a cop pull me over and ask if I had one. 🙂
Anorack fact: The Mustang car was in fact named after the airplane, but when it came time for badges, they opted for the more obvious horse.
Plane Car
what about a Starfighter F104 based car with front wheels like the Chrysler Prowler ??? 😎
I’ll take one!!! It would be a neat trike.
Maybe it could be the suject for Mark Evans Discovery Channel show “A car/plane/chopper/motorcycle” is Born series.
In the U.S. in the 80s there was a DC-3 converted into a bus-like thing. Last I saw of it, they had it painted as a Space Shuttle.
After restoring a Jeep and an old car, I’m tempted to do something nutty. Good thing I don’t live in Tucson (near the boneyard).
There are two: Wings and Airpower….both have been around for 30+ years and are printed by the same publisher.
Not a lot of current news on warbird movements or airshows. Aside from a brief “Warbird Report” column, most of the content consists of long features on a plane, pilot, or the development of a type of aircraft, mainly U.S.
Not bad, but I subscribe to FlyPast and buy individual copies of these when they have something I don’t know much about.
Turkey joining the EU, that’s what turns her on.
