It bothers me to read and hear so many mis-guided Americans declaring that we are at war with Islam.
Scott
Scott, I don’t know what propaganda you’re hearing, all we get in this country is President Bush…and the “corporate media” you decry, go out of their way to AVOID blaming Islam. He makes the point so often he sounds like he’s running for Mayor of Cairo.
I defy you give one instance when Bush…or someone in power (not some nut) have said they blame all Islam.
I can see national standards for boarding ladders/ramps at museums coming out of this.
And to play it safe, they’ll make the Eiffel Tower look underengineered.
You won’t be able to see the plane for the scaffolding.
$200 MILLION, THAT’S A LOT OF CHICKENS!!!!
If the deal goes through, I understand that Colonel Sanders will be the unit’s commanding officer.
There, somebody had to say it. 🙂
Leave the Ice Tea alone, it’s awful stuff, no idea how they can drink it…. Warm Beer, Cold Tea, what an odd country…..
Yak Fan
You have it wrong…Americans like COLD beer, it’s you folks who seem to enjoy it at room temperature!
In fact, Texans like all their drinks cold…if you’ve ever been here in the summer, you’d know why. 😎
I believe the CAF’s “Sentimental Journey” was an SB-17 before her firefighting career.
Another good book(s) to look for is “B-17 in Detail and Scale” by Bert Kinsey…3 vols. There is as lot on the SB variant in tone of those..I believe Vol 3.
Also most decent B-17 books willhave something on the SB-17…they were used a lot in Korea.
Check out the USAF Museum website at:
http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/ and do a serch on the SB-17.
They have many of the mission histories of the 3rd Rescue group in Korea which have great operational details on the SB-17 use.
Boing bird of prey?
No, it’s Boeing…hopefully it won’t go bo-ing unless it bounces really hard. 🙂
Modern nose art
I don’t know if you want modern stuff, but there is a B-1B of the 7th BW with Warner Bros cartoon character “Marvin the Martian” pictured on the plane “Alien with an Attitude.”
I don’t have a photo handy, but I’m sure some forum member does…it was at Fairford in 1998 and lots of photos were taken by enthusiasts on the open day.
Indeed I did, just wonder how long until the C5 is also classed as a historic curio ? A shame to see the Starlifter’s go, I’d hoped to get a few more snaps of them transiting through Prestwick Airport.
Get out your camera…the first batch of C-5As are headed for Davis-Monthan.
I believe less than 20 are being retired, the majority of the As and all Bs will be kept. One “A” is being disected to assess the airframe viability for the fleet.
As for the props moving… a conveniently placed hairdryer just out of shot. 😀
It’s official!!! Vidal Sasoon is the Frank Whittle of the 21st Century!! 😎
FYI: About 60 F-15s and 16s from Eglin are waiting it out at Dyess. We got great video of the fighters landing at what is normally a B-1/C-130 base.
A bit of change…
All the sites which I searched remark that he was an unrepentant Nazi until his dying day.
Some seem proud of that fact 🙁
Unrepentant Nazi?
I wonder how many of the WWII Luftwaffe pilots/aces admired by aviation buffs share that viewpoint?
Texas BF109s
Last year I ran into Connie Edwards at our local field ( his Albatross was into the avionics shop) and he confirmed he still hads “several” Ha/Bfs…he seemed a bit guarded about them, he was much more willing to show me the interior of the Grumman and talk about his Catalina.
Yes , I know it’s pretty weird to talk about the C17 here.
However I kinda remember that I read somewhere that Douglas (ooops Boeing sorry :diablo: ) had some plans to make a civil freighter from the C17 , does someone know more?
Yes the USAF (and Boeing) would like a civil outfit to buy “Civilianized” C-17s for outsized freight. In addition to typical cargo charter use, the planes would be under contract as part of the CRAF whenthe need arose.
Boeing would sell more planes, the USAF likes it because it would help keep the production line open giving the service more flexability in its purchases…not to mention a neat airlifter available when the CRAF is activated.
Hoiw about…
If you don’t like the wax figure idea, how about contracting Disney to do
“The Tom Cruise Experience” and a hologram tells visitors how he won the Battle of Britian singlehandedly… 😎
Canadian Gordon Lightfoot’s “Early Morning Rain” has a lyric
“Out on runway number nine…big 707 set to go…”
Also Carly Simon’s “You’re so vain”
“You flew your Learjet to Nova Scotia to see the total eclispe of the sun…”
Sadly, she doesn’t mention a specific model….from the time the song came out, it was probably a 25. 🙂
