what about the black hole between engines, the APU exhaust, is it the same with Su-27SM?

    Hello Gents,
Need your help finding pictures of Egyptian Airforce Mi-17V5 allegedly delivered by Kazan helicopter plant in 2010. So far no luck, thanks.

Asaik the Su-27KUB was not requested by the RuNavy.
They opted for the singel seat Su-33.

    .

I read somewhere that the Su-27KUB project was abandoned due to lack of funding and zero interest from potential user RuNavy. I;ve seen the aircraft under tarp left at Sukhoi ramp in Zhukovski, MAKS 2009. Someone better informed please correct me if I;m wrong.

the Mig-29K doesn’t have additional structure improvements for carrier landings? if so my mistake

Of course there are improvements in the fuselage, wings, lerx, arresting hook, strengthened landing gears, lots of different aggregates suited for a carrier-based fighter only.
After seeing pictures from the Mig-29KUB assembly line two years ago I was impressed, how much they have changed the airframe structure compared to baseline Mig-29. You can really see the progress, not like the Su-35S.

In the 1980s, the Russians wouldn’t have wanted French technicians crawling over their MiG-25s unless they were old models, & the French wouldn’t have wanted the Russians getting their hands on the latest French kit. After 1990, it just wasn’t on. No way, José. The game wasn’t worth the candle for any French firm that could have done it.

Different country from yours, different times. Therefore different rules.

You would be Alice in Wonderland. A friend of mine spent there almost ten years, from 1978-1989 fixing training aircrafts like the L-29, L-39 which we also overhauled for them most of the time. During the Iraq-Iran war he was confronted with a completely different military hardware on an almost daily basis. Soviet Migs and Sukhois damaged or emergency landed , he was tasked to help and repair.
With attitude like “Russians wouldn’t have wanted French technicians crawling over their…and vice versa” during that time you would get killed.:D
There are many examples of french-russian cooperations in Iraq 80ies like the french Remora ECM pod under the Mig-23, AM39 Exocet missile, refueling probe on the Mig-23BN and many, many others I forgot to mention or we do not know yet. Then, what is so unbelievable about having a foxbat revamped with french parts?

There is a poster at F16.net that claims the MiG-25 that was found buried in the Iraqi desert was full of French parts. Has there been any reports of this outside that one Internet claim? I find it difficult to believe the French could offer any real upgrades to the Iraqi Foxbats.

What is so unbelievable about having a foxbat revamped with french parts?
We have a dozen of Fulcrums revamped with US parts and they are worth $hit. Please forgive for my language.

wait what? the US obtained a Mig-25 prior to Belenko’s defection? thats news to me!!

It wouldn`t even surprise me if he claims that one Mig-25 had actually flown at area51. No wonder, when they had a flying saucer since 1947. 😀

Good eye Mack, how long were you staring at that thing ;0

Not the 60, but nothing there. Maybe they can be removed/fitted at will.

    .

No, it is present all the time, but they fly with or without the chaff/flare dispenser cowling. The same with the Mig-29 for example.

    No PAK-FA display at MAKS > http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/the-dewline/2011/05/f-15e-somehow-steals-moscow-ai.html 😡

Finally, I made decision not to visit MAKS this year and can spend money on different airshows in Europe.

The same thing they do on the Mirage F1, MiG-25, Su-24, F-14, MiG-31, F-16, MiG 1.44, J-10, J-20 and so on and so forth: improve directional stability – particularly at high AoA – without increasing the height of the aircraft. Without them, you’d need a tailfin of Tornado/Tu-22M proportions 😉 As for the Su-34, it is quite trivially not expected to perform as much high AoA flying as the basic Su-27, so the ventral strakes (to give them their technically correct name) are deleted to save weight and decrease RCS.

Flanker_man and others visiting MAKS regularly will agree with me that the Su-34 can perform similar maneuvers including high AOA turns as other Flanker comrades putting to shame almost all you`ve mentioned before. The same trivial question, did they expect from the Mig-25, Su-24 or Mig-31 to perform at high AoA either? Let me please answer.
I think the difference maker here is the shape of the Su-34 forebody. While aircrafts like the Mirage F1, MiG-25, Su-24, F-14, MiG-31 have round and smoothsided forebodies creating asymmetrical flows around the fuselage at high AOA, the Su-34 has a fuselage cross section chine-shaped. When at high angle of attack asymmetrical flows creating aerodynamical forces and moments prevail over the tailfin which happens to be in the wing wake, the directional stability is lost and spin emerges. Therefore almost all aircrafts have ventral fins to improve directional stability and enhance spin characteristics and recovery.
Unlike round forebodies the chined one produces stronger and more symmetrical vortices over the fuselage and wings which have significant impact on lateral/directional stability of the aircraft. Hence the Su-34 high directional stability at high AOA, what later rendered ventral strakes useless not to mention the tailfins are even smaller than on the Su-35.

    regards
    M
