Yes. The aerodynamic configuration of PAK FA is slightly more conservative compared to the F-22

How unconventional or progressive is the F-22 in terms of aerodynamics ????:D:D:D:D

Mhm. People were talking about the ARINC deal, and that one is definitively dingy!

I agree, selling US helicopters to war-ravaged countries like Iraq or Afghanistans does make sense, otherwise it is a fraud on US tax payers….Bell and Sikorsky lobbyism.

US is doing bussiness for years with third parties, aircraft companies in a former east block overhauling and modernizing old russian choppers. Those repair companies are authorized by MIL Moscow helicopter plant thus are type certificate holders and can perform these activities, therefore nothing is fishy there when you/society do not know much about their undertakings. Well, some information is available over the internet as well but perhaps very less in english.
Reasons using those companies are simple. Why bother Kazan or Ulan UDE production plants(under MIL leadership) being constantly busy by filling orders on new machines when the war in Afghanistan need a “workhorse”, cheap and reliable helicopter operating under enviromental extremes !! Overhauled Hips by those “third parties” is the best cost-effective solution, even then NATO/US officials admit that Russian Hips are better suited to high temperatures/dust and sand like conditions than NATO helicopters.

I hope now it will make sense for you.;)

    Could it be chaff/flare dispensers?

you right, but old Migs-31 with four underfuselage R-33 dont have them installed.

To get answers regarding soviet military aircrafts use google to find documents/manuals like “The practical aerodynamics” or “The flight characteristics” of the Mig-21,23,25,29 or Su-22,24,25. Be aware, unlike US flight manuals these are written in Russian, so hopefully you can handle this language.

…but seriously, another ‘credible insider’ source claims (now concensus) that there is a strong resemblance to the F-22, (?)…blah…blah…blah…

Do not believe a word from your “credible insider” source, bcs I`ve heard the pAK-fa doesnt look like the F-22. Well, this whole thing about first rollout and taxing really stinks.

Many times I asked my self what happened to this guy feeling his absence on this forum, now I got the sad message as well. IIRC I used to know him from the fighter planes forum a long, long time ago. Rest in piece Harry.

I think that fighter manufacturers that does not let some graphs to public must be hiding bad figures for their planes.

Exactly, thats the reason why F-22 Craptor graphs were not published yet. :diablo:

Russia to start 5th generation fighter tests in 2010 – deputy PM

Guys remember, if they didnt manage to fly that thing till the end of this year, then you could expect first flight at late February or early March 2010. Russians live according to Julian calendar with Christmass beginning on January 7th which is celebrated in style with loads of Vodka, therefore no one is going to stay sober and go to work the whole January….:)

And God said, ‘Let there be vodka !’

Back in the day, it was claimed that early MiG-29 could not fire the 30mm cannon with the centreline drop tank fitted, because the tank blocked the cannon casing ejection port. AFAIK this was incorrect.

Whats the real deal with this?

Also can the tank be dropped, or is it fit and removed on the ground? What are the full and empty restrictions?

    Peter
Actually it is true, with the centerline drop tank attached cannon shell casings ejected from the “old” port could hit the tank what was dangerous thus they added a “wire” to the CFT electric connector telling the weapon system to block firring from the cannon. Take a look at diagrams I made to explain this matter, but please excuse my lame visualization. The “old” ejection port was angled almost identical to aircraft longitudinal plane due to the sleeve(red color) leading from the cannon and ejecting shell casings backwards. All Migs izd. 9.12 produced before 1990 (till 351. production serie) featured “old” port and were delivered with the CFT cannon blockage. With the 351 produc. serie this problem was solved by adjusting cannon attachment joints of the fuselage and installing a new shell sleeve(green) ejecting shell casings directly down and before the attached CFT. Russians offered this to foreign customers as a standard modification (bulletin No. xxxxxx) to all previosly produced izd. 9.12, so it is possible that perhaps some Mig-29 users such as the German AF modified their Fulcrums in early nineties in order to perform various live-fire excercises across the world. Not sure with the izd. 9.13 as I do not have experience with that aircaft but I`d suppose Soviets fixed that CFT&cannon combo problem early on.

The centerline fuel tank can be droped easily by hitting the switch located on the control stick. The CFT doesnt have a pyro lock jettisoning tank downwards but there is an electromagnetic lock which opens and releases the tank front part down rotating around tank aft hinges and then falling backwards. Also worth noting is that 351 serie has inboard wing pylons wet to attach 1150l fuel tank. This mod could be added to any older Fulcrum as well.
