I recon that there must be some truth in these rumours, does anyone know what actually happened to all the, not necessarily “scrap” shall we say, unwanted aircraft and stuff at the end of the war? There must have been loads and loads of it. I cant believe that it was all melted down and made into saucepans or what ever??? For a start, I think, that much stuff coming on to the market at one time would have made the price of scrap metal drop drastically.. may be to the point that it was more cost effective to dig a big hole and bury it all rather than go to all the trouble of striping it off the aircraft and trying to sell it, after all when the first world war finished didn’t they burn a lot of aircraft that weren’t wanted? Just think… the war’s over we have a lot of stuff no one wants, we have all these service men standing around doing nothing, To quote a line out of a certain film, give them a bloody shovel…… incidentally if you do dig up something, which I think is probley illegal, I wouldn’t broadcast it, get in touch with a local archology group or someone as other-wise you will probley have allsorts of tw@s down there trying to dig it out with a jcb or something

Keep it you can never have too many copy’s of this film…just think your dog may eat it or your wife/girlfriend may get fed up with you watching it and try to destroy it!!! You could then produce your other copy from under your bed and away you go again. Or even better you could even get another dvd player and watch both copy’s at the same time!!!, start one going, then 10 mins later start the other one and hay presto you wont have to rewind to watch Miss York in stockings again!!!

I have a small mpeg movie (1.4 meg if you call that small) lasts about 15 seconds, of a bbmf flypast with sound and everything, If anyone would like to “host” it and put the link here we can all hear what 5 merlins and a griffon look and sound like in the air. There is no annoying commentary or music..just the sound of lovely merlins.

Well said dhfan..I think that if projects like M.52, TSR.2 and P1154 were aloud to go ahead, Britain would lead the world, as it used to, in revolutionary aircraft and engineering. Instead of vacuum cleaners and clock-work radio’s.
why on earth you would want to spoil good Tequila or vodka with that sh1t, i dont know:-) ive had vodka and red bull……tasted like vodka and pi$$ 🙂 give u a buzz….but i stick to fosters now……or anyother beer……or vodka on it own……..or brandy…….or anything that aint got red bull in it….. 🙂
drunk Dezz 😀
why aint my smilies looking like they should 🙂
Although I think it looks stupid in red bull colours, btw has anyone tasted it…red bull I mean….well don’t bother pour it out in a glass and tell me what it look’s like and I’ll tell you it tastes the same….not that I have ever drunk pi$$ but I can imagine….anyway I would sooner see it in the air in this paint scheme than grounded but in a historically correct one, or even worse see it join all the other cool airworthy jets in SA.
BTW I don’t think it looked bad in its old colours, but RN colours would look best.

I have too admit that I was impressed with the size of the TSR2 when I saw the one at Duxford, last year, first time I seen one “in the flesh” , so to speak, think where British aviation would be today if projects like this and the Miles M52 went ahead, instead of being cancelled by a short sited government or who ever

BTW great pic’s Kev
I used to read a lot of sven hassle. I got all the book’s, don’t know what, ones were actually written by him but here is a list if the ones I have, O,G,P,U prison, Court martial, the bloody road to death, blitzfreez, reign of hell, ss general, assignment Gestapo, liquidate Paris, march battalion, Monte casino, comrades of war, wheels of terror and legion of the damned. Another good auther is Desmond Bagley, although not really war related, his book flyaway is a very good read, and , I know he got a slating from certain people, but I did enjoy reading Bruce Barrymore Halpenny’s series of ghost stations book’s. I don’t read much non-fiction any more, and am waiting for the un-censored version of enemy coast ahead to come out at the end of the month, as for my favourite author…..well….its got to be, Robet Rudhall his battle of Britain film books are supurb.

I have a ..what is now considered now as a rather old, sony digi cam (mvc-fd 85) with regard to shutter lag it has a feature that I think new digi cams should have (if they haven’t got it already)..in so much as if you press the shutter button half way down the camera grey-scales once this has happened you can press it all the way down and it then takes the piccie straight-away hence no shutter lag….it takes a bit of getting used to but seems to work ok….well it would do if I was any good at taking photos. The only problem I have is that the digi zoom is a pile of poo but my camera is only 1.3 mega pic cell… but it was cutting edge camera…well….3 years ago anyway

Hi kev
I have had a further look in my book and expanded the search to the surrounding area sort of 5 miles in-land where you have Ivychurch and newchurch I also checked for Romney marsh, as all these places border it , and a bit further a’field you have, of course, eastchurch. I came up with a few more possibilities, could one of these be your Hurricane ?
877. Hurricane I, P3025 111 Newchurch, nr boundary with Burmarsh. In combat over the Channel was severely damaged. Sgt T. Wallace was slightly wounded
921. Hurricane 1, P3770 504 Newchurch, S of Brookland. Shot up over the Kent coast and burned after the crash. P/o A. Clarke missing. A subsequent dig on the site showed no sign of the body, but a handkerchief marked ‘Clarke’ was found. Based Hendon. Cat 3
1316. Hurricane 1, R4074 46 Newchurch Church, Shot up over Dungeness by Lw fighters. Sgt I. Morrison killed. Based Stapleford Tawney. Cat 3
726. Hurricane I, V7420 43 Ivychurch – Fryland, ’12 mile south of Church. Set alight in combat with Me109’s over W. Kent and attempted a force landing. P/O Woods-Scawen baled out too late and was killed. He is buried in Folkestone Cemetery, Plot O Grave 25. Based Tangmere. Cat 3
1364. Hurricane 1, V6785 615 Romney Marsh. Shot up by Me109’s and a 20mm cannon shell exploded in the cockpit. P/O E.R. Edmunds seriously wounded. Based Northolt. Cat 2
855. Hurricane ” P3021 504 Eastchurch. Force landed with a cannon shell through the canopy and the fuel tank after an engagement over the Estuary. Sgt B.M Bush unhurt(!). Based Hendon. Cat 2
1084. Hurricane I, P2960 257 Eastchurch, Groves Fm. Shot up by Me109’s over Thames Estuary whilst on patrol. Sgt D. Aslin baled out badly burnt and was hospitalized. Sgt Aslin not listed in Form 541. Also reported at Godmersham. Based Debden. Cat 3
if you think one of them may be let me know and I will look further for you, I am no authority on the subject but I do have a few more books and stuff I can look through, to see if the armor plate for the aircraft is in a museum somewhere, which will rule the one you have out
hope this helps

Hi Kev
I have had a look through my “aircraft casualties in Kent 1939-1940” book (isbn 0948193506) this contains some 1400 incidents, I have looked up Dymchurch and there are not many listings… surprisingly…the only Hurricane listed that didn’t crash in the sea is the one below, I don’t think its going to be much help but here you go.
All I can say is “stupid dumb fvck-holes” why on earth would you want to do something like that!!!. I hope that some day someone burns something they love.
