RE: Calling all
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-10-02 AT 04:40 PM (GMT)]“Convoys?”
I think is “none due through till tonight”
“Dover”
Depends if it’s the first Dover or second I think the conversation goes like this……
1st German officer “Dover?”
2nd German officer “Dover”
1st German officer ( in my best German accent) “ these masts ….radio direction finders”
Then another German says “England’s secret weapon”
Anyone know what comes next……
I do.
Very sad Dezz

RE: Rotary engines
Thanks for the info Christer and Wombat
If I remember correctly, the movies of rotary engines, that ive seen, did look pretty Smokey, so its no wonder the pilot got covered in oil, as an aside, I never even dreamed that castor oil was ever used in engines!! Just goes to show “you learn something every day”
Thanks again

RE: Centaurus

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-10-02 AT 06:31 PM (GMT)]Hi Keithmac
I have always been interested in engines, and I, like others have found your posts very interesting and informative, I think the most interesting type of engine is the type used in the early years of flying, cant think of the proper name for them, but the type that the crank shaft is held still and the cylinder heads rotate around it with the prop bolted to them rather than the crankshaft, I think the idea being to help cooling, its a wonder they worked at all!!…..anyway may be you can do a bit about them.
Thanks and keep up the good work
Dezz
BTW the Centaurus is a cool looking bit of kit

RE: Pics of your city, please.
hi
Well… I come from Gillingham (in Kent) it aint a city (most people call it a $h1t hole!) it has 2 nightclubs both of which are usually filled up with army chaps from the school of military engineering in brompton!!! So you can forget that if you want a good night out, with out a fight! We do have a high street, and a lovely beach (how do I write this sarcastically !!)
However 3 miles away we have Rochester home of the once famous short’s airplane works, now flattened and replaced with very expensive flats. It does have a castle and a cathedral, both of which are worth a visit, however if you want a good night out go to Maidstone!!
having said that we do have some lovley countryside ( garden of england and all that)but even that is having houseing estates built on it, not to mention the high speed rail link cutting through most of it, and there is talk of one of the biggest airports in the world being built on cliff marshes, but thats another story.

RE: North Weald CASA Heinkel 111
I agree with you Roger, this sort of thing really makes me puke, but I think lancman has hit it on the head, about all the money being in America, although there must be some rich bloke, or company, somewhere in Europe that wouldn’t mind putting it back in the air.
🙁
I know It’s the old saying but….when I win the Lotto……
