Hurri
Those of us who live to display historic aircraft know that there are risks but we seek to ensure that the level of risk is minimised and the reward maximised. Sometimes, for whatever reason the balance tips. Just spent a couple of hours reading masses of speculation and uninformed boxxxxs on various forums this morning.
This aircraft would have been well maintained at Duxford and the pilot well practiced. We wont know where the cause lies until much more work is done. The only truth is that this is a sad loss of pilot and machine.
Good show
I dont think it was a ‘good show’ – it was a GREAT SHOW. Met some great people. Realxing time on Saturday counting Chipmunks. Flew in formation with a very special person. Had some interesting flying on Sunday but had to leave at ‘half time’. Shame because I probably missed some good stuff but transit time and all that….
Wanted to see the local residents – The Blades – perform but missed them.
Thanks Bod
I hope you covered costs and made something for the charity.
Count me in for the next one.
Raveningahm is just north of Beccles (south of Loddon). Displays at 1.30, 3.30, and 4.30
Yak 11
The chippy and brantly B2b were heading to Nut tree farm to take someone flying – makes a change from sitting on the wing of another Chipmunk although trying to get a visual ref off the wingtip is a bit difficult!.
I think they are planning on the three being available for this weekend coming. Booked for a small display in Norfolk (raveningham) as a three ship along with Al Coutts Pitts S2 and another outing for a half measure Red Sparrpws (who have been under strength for most of their recent displays due aircraft or personnel unavailability). Their next four ship us due to be Boxted on the 9th…..
Steve – Children in Need wins I am afraid so displaying at Gransden. Maybe next year,
All of the landing pics from Kemble are now on the web site of P***T mag. Searchable by reg (or part reg) and mostly correct although some are clearly wrong (the same reg for two diff aircraft!).
Im sure I saw another nipper.

I didnt miss your display then. I had to get away early and departed just before Sally B.
effing chippy
Melvyn – of course – I was forgetting…. Followed by “what were those effing cars doing on the runway…” on the return. Still all three chippies wre obviously correctly positioned at one point – the evidence is here photographically and I dont think that line astern is a photoshop job.
Melvyn
Rather forgetful that – “now I must have put that Hurricane somewhere…” – “anyone seen my Chipmunk…”
Septic – now thats better. Departure shot if I am not mistaken. What a beautiful aircraft 🙂
Manston
The seafire did a display with John Beatty at the controls and in formation with the Spit flown by Peter Teichman
septic nice shots – but only one of a chipmunk – shame on you.
Honington F+F day
I thought tho Lanc was fine. Couldnt quite work out which display routine the KC135 driver was working too though…
Sparrows
You can find team details on the red sparrows web site – see announcement of site in an earlier thread.
But
Lead is Howard Cook who flies Spit and Hurri for HAC.
No 2 is Clive Denny also Spit and Hurri for HAC
No 3 is Ian Davies – editorial person at Pilot mag
No 4 is AVM Chris Harper, very experienced formation pilot and RAF bid wig.
Team name came from being similar (well slightly!) to the Red Arrows only slower. It is a name which the team picked up in the first season of operating and stuck.
The Arrows know about it and approve.
The Sparrows won new team of the year approval from the CAA and display community last year.
Currently a four ship with aircraft from Duxford, Felthorpe, and Seething.
Obviously not – my pics must be in the system somewhere!
