The present owner of the Belfast at Prestwick is an Australian company called Transpacific Pty Ltd , NSW. The reg G-HLFT was cancelled by the CAA as withdrawn from use on 10/03/03 , has she been run up recently , I think the Tyne engines have to be run every 30 days or basically they become scrap very quickly , can anybody confirm this ?????

Preston is spot on , it only extends on the ground , once the aircraft is correctly fuelled and loaded the CofG comes back within the safety margins and the tail stop can be retracted. It’s only to stop the aircraft tipping rearwards whilst loading.

There are about half a dozen 747 freighters lying near HLFT , one of which looks like it is being used as a spares ship , over on the other side there is also an old 707 in a kind of hemp/beige colour scheme too – looked like one of the Israeli Air Force ones , not sure though – I think this is serviceable though .
The only Belfast at Prestwick is G-HLFT , she was supposed to come up here for a repaint in the Polar facility after being sold to an Australian company , she did go into the Polar Hangar but came back out still in the Heavylift colour scheme ( but looking a bit shinier ) . She is still sitting to the left of the Polar hanger but has’nt moved in over a month . The same company which has supposed to have bought HLFT are supposed to have bought another Belfast for spares use – this is down south somewhere . There was a thread about HLFT and a would be operator known as “the Guv ” on the Pprune network , but nothing has come of it yet . I fear the longer she lies inactive , the more likely she will be scrapped – her ramp charges must be mounting up now .
Scrapping looks likely now , she’s still next to the Polar Hangar and hasn’t moved since she was pushed outside , doe’s anybody know if the engines have been run up recently ??
Great website David , I’ve just spent the last hour and a half reading the story archives , bloody funny , good photos too .
