RE: Airport pic of the day-12/03/02
Great photo!
My favourite aircraft in one of the best colour schemes!
RE: A funny tale to tell…..
A flat tyre causes a two week delay, definately an airline to avoid!
RE: Airline television advertisments
Yes I watch GMTV as well.
I may be the only one here but I cannot stand Fiona, she just irritates the hell out of me!
Eamon can be quite funny sometimes and the weather girl is very nice:-).
I’ve also seen the UPS one, it was shot at East Midlands, you can just about see certain parts of the airport in the background.
RE: How safe is Cubana?
How do the newspapers find that out? Well they take into account all the accidents the airline has had and probably other stuff like how many aircraft they operate to come up with such a statistic.
It is a known fact that Cubana are one of the unsafe airlines around along with Korean Air.
Malaysian are indeed the airline you are referring to. It is CAA law that they should carry enough fuel to circle for a while or divert if needed. They were apparently not carrying enough fuel and I think decalred an emergency a couple of times when they had to circle.
RE: First bmibaby aircraft painted
bmibaby only have plans to operate from EMA at present, it was only set up after Go announced routes from there.
I’m not keen on the Britannia TUI colours, I’m hoping to get a pic of that today, the aircraft that departed EMA yesterday was in the new colours, hope its still the same one due in today!
RE: First bmibaby aircraft painted
I’m not that keen on the colourscheme, I wasn’t on the model either.
Apparently the airline is doing really well with sales before its even started flying!
To be honest after thinking about it for a while I think its a pretty good idea. BMI have had a lot of aircraft spare since September and with the low cost carriers doing so well lately then it makes sense.
I’m pretty sure now that these were the first bmibaby shots on the web! 🙂
RE: 1,000 posts special-Where are you all from?
Never been to Scarborough, but if its worse than Blackpool then I’d be very, very surprised!
They reckon they are trying to make Blackpool the UK version of Vegas.
Yeah right!
RE: Flying in Concorde
Depends – If you save up all of your money for years then I’d say it would be better spent elsewhere than on a 3 hour trip.
I think you get just as much of the feeling on the pleasure flights but you end up back in the UK instead of on a holiday in New York, at at 10% of the price!
Given the choice I’d probably try the Virgin Upper Class cabin for less money.
Although if you have a lot of money and your not spending your life savings then go for it.
If they start pleasure flights again I’d definately recommend it, OK it costs as much (or more) than a two week holiday, but its a once in a lifetime trip and may not be available for that much longer.
RE: Flying in Concorde
I had a pleasure flight a few years ago. Took off from MAN and had a couple of hours supersonic over the atlantic before returning back to MAN. the take-off is great, there is absolutely no turbulence, you can’t even feel that you are going in to clouds!
As for the supersonic bit, well you don’t actually know your travelling at such a speed, you are so high that you can start to see the curvature of the earth and it is very dark above you. I remember the captain saying we needed to make a slight left turn else we’d be in Iceland in 11 minutes!
The other thing was the landing, you were thrown forward in your seat when the thrust reversers came on.
Interior – the seats are quite small but they were all grey leather and very comfortable, but this was before the recent overall when they changed everything.
RE: Airline television advertisments
Gulf Air ones seem to be the most common in the midlands and we also get a lot of Emirates with that champagne glass.
bmibaby have started advertising a bit now and I’m expecting to see a lot of them and Go in the next few months due to the EMA start-up.
RE: Birmingham Airport Developments
Also at BHX there will be a few Aer Lingus aircraft in next week for the horse racing at Chetltenham, 3 A330-‘s (or 1 A330 on three trips) are due in on Monday.
I will let you know of any EMA news as soon as I hear any, but only news so far is the new bmibaby and Go routes.
RE: Any other aircraft?
How about the Jetstreams (31 / 41). Don’t these fit the criteria?
RE: Where are you all from
Leicester, England.
Not really a lot to report, but we do now have the national space centre.
RE: South African Airways
How about this:
Replace 737-800 with A320’s
747SP with A340-300’s
747-200/300/400 with A340-600’s
Benefit from the commonality of the Airbuses.
RE: KLM
Whats wrong with Virgin, they do Jo’bourg and I think they still fly Cape Town as well.
BA are very poor, I flew them from LGW to Orlando and was actually impressed at first (first schedule flight, used to charters), but after comparing with Virgin they are just not good enough.
