    RE: Which airline?

Note to monster500, do Emirates offer any sort of sponsorship. I think the price of the CPL and ATPL are just too high and this may be my only way in.
I wouldn’t have thought UK airlines will be offering any for a while.

Very nice photos for your first attempt, particularly the second BM one, up close. The blurring is probably caused when you save your file as a JPG, uploading shouldn’t change the photo. Your computer program may have a feature where you can change the JPG compression to less.

The BM reg thing is so annoying, they are so difficult to see, even at close range. But this problem only occurs on the Fokkers, the Embraers have them on the engines.

RE: How many companies have signed on?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-01-02 AT 08:45 PM (GMT)]According to the Airbus website there have been 97 firm orders and commitments (12 cargo) fom 9 customers. The other two customers are Qantas (as correctly stated above) and ILFC (International Lease Finance Corporation).
Emirates have ordered 22 (2 Cargo) and options on another 10.

RE: How many companies have signed on?

Singapore, Virgin, Emirates, Air France, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Fed Ex have ordered the cargo version I think. Don’t know about Qantas.

Singapore and Emirates will share the first flight. Apparently They will both head to London Heathrow (SQ from Singapore and EK from Dubai). The Singapore Airlines flight will take off first but the Emirates one will land first, or so I have read.

I would have loved to land at Kai Tak and took a few photos of my own. There were some scary landings there though.

    Anyway, great photo!

RE: bmi British Midland set up low cost subsiduary

Some more good news for EMA, not 1 but 2 low-cost airlines here next year. This makes sense for BMI, they obviously have over capacity (6 aircraft are stored at EMA!) and as the low cost airlines are the only ones currently making a profit, this seems a great idea.

Lets hope both airlines are successful at EMA.

Good to see a new airline starting up.

Not sure about the name though, it sounds horrible.

    Good luck to them!

RE: The National UK Airport Awards

Its hard to choose between Birmingham and Manchester.

Birmingham has had a lot of new development over the past few years and looks fantastic now, even the new car park looks good.

Manchester has always been a nice airport and T2 is excellent to fly from.

I think I’d have to give my vote to Birmingham though, a very modern airport and future developments that are planned should make it even better!

    RE: Easy Jet

    Whats bad about the A319?

It would be great to see a few in easyjet colours and would make sense if they wanted to expand with larger types in the future, the A320 and A321 have great commonality.

I still think they’ll go with Boeing though and the mnention of Airbus may be just to get a price reduction, in what are difficult times, when any order for either manufacturer is good news.

The 15 year old was having a flying lesson, not his first. He was cleared to do a pre-flight check of the plane by the instructor, but took it off totally unauthorised and crashed it into the building.

The coast guard chopper tracked it and I think there were two military F-whatevers scrambled, but they were just taking off as the plane hit.

It was just very fortunate that nobody else was hurt.

    RE: Easy Jet

Great news indeed to see a carrier looking to place orders.

I’d like them to go for the A319, it would look great in the orange colours.
I’d have thought the 737 would be the most likely though as they are the only aircraft in the fleet at the moment.

It will be good to see an airline place an order, is there only Emirates who have placed orders since Sept 11?

It should be updated a bit quicker than that, festive season or not.

It only takes a few minutes, unless the web site is run by some other company and not someone within key.

Then again as long as the forum is open and the magazine keeps getting updated I don’t suppose it matters too much, just looks bad to anyone who is visiting for the first time.

    RE: Flight deck

I think, as with before Sep 11 that it is the pilots decision as to whether you can visit the deck. I heard on another forum that somebody had been into the flightdeck after Sep 11, so it is still possible.
Landing in the flightdeck was a difficult thing anyway, but I don’t know whether it will be allowed now.

RE: Which Aircraft would be best for BEA?

I’d like to see tham operate thae Airbus A318 / 19, but its difficult to know which they will go for as their other attempt at Jets, the CRJ’s were not a success and are being removed after a very short service. The Embraers would probably be the most likely candidate, but if they went for Airbus they could benefit from fleet commonality in future if they decided to expand and offer destinations further afield.

    RE: Problem Solved!

What “good stuff” software have you got. For scenery of the UK I recommend English Airports 2000 and GB Airports 2001, both now have fs2002 working versions and both are excellent.

I’m about to try a freeware version of Breman Germany that looks excellent.
