RE: Boeing 747-436 – What does the 36 stand for?
Thanks for the quick responses. I’ve now found a couple of web sites with a large list of airline codes.
How do Airbus use their last two digits? There are a lot that are the same, I’m presuming they use a different method to Boeing.
RE: OAG.com
I’m not registered but I use the flight schedules a lot, its excellent.
I mainly use it for information regarding the airlines and types that visit airports all over the world, which I need for Flight sim 2000, when creating scenery.
Just recently I was creating some dynamic scenery (moving planes) for Simon Bolivar Airport in Venezuela and I needed to know which airlines visited the airport and what types they used. oag.com had all flights and made it so easy. How else would I be able to find that information.
Great site!
RE: JMC103K (MAN-CFU)
Its a 757-200. Air 2000 are pretty good, JMC might not be that bad 🙂
RE: Concorde Flying again
I don’t know how the tests are going but I did read somewhere that Air France and BA had agreed that they would both resume Concorde passenger flights on the same day, so they must be going pretty well.
RE: Concorde Flying again
Thanks for letting me know about that, its now fixed.
RE: Concorde Flying again
Went down to Heathrow today to see it happen. The Queens Building terrace was absolutely packed with people, I was interviewed for the Sky News web site (got my name mentioned but that was about all) and saw the journalist from BBC’s Airport up there too. There were numerous cammeras and I got a few pictures myself:

Second one would have been a perfect picture if it wasn’t for the Ghana DC-10!!
More and bigger versions on my web site: http://www.plane-mad.com
Great to see her up again, a thought everybody shared today apart from two protesters with a banner calling it “a beast” and the “British Airways Con”, complaining about something or other (environmental I think).
RE: Ryanair still are a bunch of idiots.
You can’t compare the prices of these two, a low cost carrier and a national one.
Its like comparing BA to easyjet, of course easyjet are cheaper but BA has the improved service and other major benefits which is why they can charge higher prices and still fill planes.
I don’t agree with Ryanair saying they have a younger fleet, they are focusing on their 737-800’s, the newest in their own fleet to the 737-200’s, the oldest members of the sabena fleet.
From sabena’s point of view they could say: Over half of Ryanairs fleet is made up of old 737-200’s, while sabena’s is getting younger all the time with the introduction of the airbuses.
They are advertising the few advantages and leaving out the disadvantages (name a company that doesn’t) which isn’t illegal, but I also think that people are clever enough to know there are disadvantages as with everything.
The bit about the younger fleet though is surely a lie and I don’t think they should be able to make such a claim.
RE: PIK-Beauvais…732 or 738?? (FR)
One of the old 200’s I’m affraid.
RE: HRC?? Who are they??
The JN prefix is given to the Schedule Flights of Excel Airways, the re-named Sabre. They operate Manchester, Gatwick and Birmingham to Malta under JN.
No idea who HRC are.
RE: Memorabilia
I used to collect anything with an airline logo on it. Like you the magazines, ocassional safety card, blankets and I always bought a model if I hadn’t already got one. Also anything else with a logo on, baggage tags that are available at check-in and I had quite a collection (may still have some) of the salt and pepper, sugar sachets they gave you on the plane.
May still have the odd Air Malta one or two in their old colours which must be at least 10-15 years old. Won’t be putting that on my chips though!
RE: Best airline
Just got back from flying BMI (EMA-PMI-EMA). The drinks were free on the flight but I’d have to agree that the meals were poor. OK on the way out (breakfast) but the return was poor, chicken or pork (we’re still not sure now) with a kind of gravy with a horrible taste, served with rice and cabbage.
I think on flights where there is no choice they should feature a common dish that most people will like instead of these specialist dishes.
RE: Heathrow or O’Hare
Can’t confirm the Palma claim either way, but having just got back I can’t see this being true. It is a very busy airport with a lot of International traffic but I can’t see that it gets anywhere near Heathrow. Maybe wrong though, be interested to have this confirmed either way.
RE: Travellers face yet more misey
Just got back from Majorca yesterday. I flew out to Palma on Sat 30 June and was very lucky to get away with just a 1hr 20 min delay with British Midland from East Midlands (F100). I was also being picked up at the airport so no need to join ther 4 hr wait.
The authorities had it organised as best they could in the situation but it shouldn’t have been allowed to get to that stage.
There has top be a better solution than strikes as they benefit nobody. This has again been seen with the Cathay Pacific pilot strike, with all European flights cancelled yesterday.
RE: HETHROW RUNWAY THREE
Your solution would be a good one in theory but the main problem is that airlines want to fly into Heathrow, Gatwick is a second option and Luton and Stansted are too far away from London centre.
RE: HETHROW RUNWAY THREE
I agree with you that it is about time.
Heathrow is quite clearly over congested as proven by the recent near miss reports that have been very well documented in the press. As with virtually everything else I thought that is was going to take a fatal accident for the government to eventually realise that something needed to be done, as has been the case with certain other things (the railways for one).
This should have been done a long time ago, the report which you mentioned started years ago, about 5 or 6 years ago if I’m not mistaked. What on earth does this report contain that takes 5 or 6 years to write? It only takes a day at the airport to see that there are problems and I’m sure if you talked to a few of the controllers, they would let you know the scale of this problem.
You would then look into the options (Heathrow or Gatwick expansions or a new airport that has vaguely been suggested) and get plans drawn up (a few weeks or couple of months at most)before deciding which was best and going ahead with it. This should, in any case be started when the airport is operating at below capacity so that the work can be finished before the capacity is reached, not started years after it!
I just don’t understand why political things take so long to get moving, I think its about time they stopped slagging each other off and started devoting their energy to things like this that need urgent attention.
