Hey Preston, I’ll be up on the 26th, as its a bank holiday I’ll going to try to finalise my plan for the 28th.
Lanzarote is one of the best places for getting close, there is a fence there (new one which is a real pain!) but if your careful you can get photos without showing it.
At ACE you can get low as they fly over you, to the left of where the pic was taken, just after the runway is a walkway and they fly very low overhead. Almost scary when your under a big jet.
Think it would be nice to see a little piece in a future issue.
Preston, I think you mentioned a little piece in the feedback section, I think this would be idea.
East Midlands is one of the busiest cargo airports in the UK, last year it beat MAN and Stansted!
Problem is that most flights are at night, DHL have a huge facility with 757, 727 and A300’s plus Gemini MD-11 and Kalitta 747 flights. We also get AN-124’s occasionally and I’ve heard Lufthansa are to start an MD-11 flight through EMA on the way to JFK.
Apart from that UPS have a few regular services and Channel Express are regulars.
Nice pics Preston, looks like a familiar spot 🙂
Seeing as its local for you, couldn’t you fly with Continental from BHX via Newark?
Let me answer my own question – just done a quick search and it is possible.
If this is no good then I would look at MAN, I personally hate LHR to fly from. Somebody I know flew MAN – LAX with bmi / United for £250 rtn a few weeks ago. From MAN you can try CO, AA, BD / UA, DL or US, I would look on the airlines actual website and places like opodo.com as well.
I haven’t got much trust in Travel Agents at the minute. A friend at work wanted to get to Malta (lives in Leicester) and this is what they came up with:
Cost = £230
Hes got to go down to LHR, fly out with Alitalia at 0930 and change aircraft in Milan! As opposed to flying direct on one of two weekly flights from EMA or BHX, or even MAN or LHR (at least daily / 3x daily!). Did a quick search on the Air Malta website and got a direct flight from BHX for £180 same week, the day after he booked that!
Nice pictures, looks like you tried about every corner of the airport!
There is a good area for photos around the other side behind the Tristar but they closed it off in March for some reason.
The first purchase is about £40 which sounds a little expensive.
But once you have the game the upgrades only cost about £9 each (or £26 for 4).
Its well worth a go, I’m just off to continue mine now, will be adding a few more A330’s to my LHR long haul network.
EMA do a list on their website which you could check tomorrow morning http://www.eastmidlandsairport.com
Apart from a large amount of bmibaby you will probably see:
A few DHL 727 / 757 parked up for the day
easyjet / Go – If the same as Tuesday they’ll both be in full Go colours, were G-ODUS and G-IGOF
easyjet swiss registered 737 at about 1500.
And possibly a few charters, based for the summer:
BY 1x 763 / 1x 757
TCX 1x A320
MYT – Thought they were flying 1 A320 and 1 A321 but on Tuesday there were two A321’s (G-DHJH and G-EFPA) plus a Danish registered all white A320 (Premiair aircraft)
AMM – 1x A321
I think there are a few interesting charters on Saturday but can’t remember which or what times except a Balkan Holidays TU-154 that goes out early.
Also may be a Kalitta 747 but they don’t seem to operate everyday so maybe not!
For best spot, if you head around from Donington Park to Castle Donington and go past the aeropark you can turn right just after the Nags Head pub and follow up to the top near the crash gates.
I may head up myself tomorrow so if you see a red fiesta with a “I’d rather be flying” sticker in the back you know its me!
Yep, I’ve had a few of the earlier versions for a while now.
It taken up a lot of my time and is very addictive. There are a lot of details within the game, you can set schedules and configurations for each aircraft and pretty much do what you want.
I’d highly recommend it, the first time you have it I think they have to ship which takes a while from Aus, but then you can get all updates over e-mail, well worth a try.
I think another forum member Mongu also has it, don’t know anyone else.
Isn’t Farnborough every year?
My mistake!
5 or 6 won’t be repeated because I think only 4 are or ever will be Airworthy.
4 may happen though at an airshow (possibly Farnborough) but they would have to stop the LHR – JFK service.
They have to do something special to say farewell and a UK tour seems to make sense.
Nice pic.
Where is that taken at?
Just looking at the background, you’ve got an Air France Concorde (CDG or JFK), an Air France what looks like an A320 (points to CDG) but also a Virgin 747 (points to JFK).
Easyjet spokesman Toby Nichol says it was not necessary to expand Heathrow or Gatwick when there is spare capacity at Luton.
Ha ha, can you imagine BA (or any other airline that doesn’t fly out of LTN) seeing it that way!
Shrink below 100k and keep the quality, not very easily.
Firstly shrink to a size that looks OK with a paint program. Now within the program you should be able to select your jpg compression. Keep going down 1 step at a time until its below 100k. I’ve tried a few and can usually get them below at 500 width using a compression of 2 or 3 which is still very low and looks OK.
