[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-09-02 AT 07:48 PM (GMT)]Cyprus
1. Bloody Turks
2. Too much village culture in peoples psyches
3. In danger of over crowding the island with too many Hotels!
4. Not global enough
5. Stubbornness in any small insignificant matter!
6. Only see Japanese Cars on the roads
7. Politics seem to be dominated by 60-80 year old politicians.
8. Constant visa controls at airports (greeks whose parents
live abroad have to do national service).
9. Cypriots eat and drink too much resulting in beer bellies!!!
10.Not much urgency in Cypriots getting on a plane and jetting off
the island.

RE: WORLDS MOST POWERFUL NATIONS – 2003!!!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-09-02 AT 04:27 PM (GMT)]1. USA – although the only military and Economy superpower left on this Earth i am not convinced about their armed forces, managed to kill 4 Canadian soldiers accidentally didn’t they!!! always lose in USA-Israeli dogfight practises.
2. Russia – How can you dismiss their huge Nuclear Arsenal…if it weren’t for that it would surely have been invaded and divided by know!! Poor army but tough as nuts Airforce and experienced navy. 15-20,000 arsenal covering range 6,800miles. 1.5m troops.
3. China – One example where size does matter and has nuclear assets to match even though Airforce has obsolete 3rd generation fighters mig-21 and huge standing army. 450warheads range 6,800 miles. 2.9m troops WOW WOW!!
4. France – In some peoples eyes No 2 in Europe but I think have rebelling streak and exercise independent thought (anti-america) most of the time. Comparable armed forces with UK but lacking in logistically producing mainly indigenous equipment.
5. UK – Well balanced Armed forces and highly trained but overstretched and under funded. Good mix of American and british/European equipment eg lynx, Apaches, Eurofighters. And have the SAS!!! the SAS is quite simply the top elite force, not just in Britain, but throughout the world. Nuclear capable with range of missiles of 7,500miles.
6. Israel – battle hardened and scarred and has highly experienced officers in all areas of Armed forces except Navy?? Nuclear capable with Jericho missiles 930miles.
7. India – Another member of the nuclear club and is trying very hard to upgrade its forces with high-tech help from Russia, S300, Su-mki, aircraft carrier Gorshkov , brahmos etc….
8. South Africa – see mongu >12. South Africa. Army full of hard men who know how to fight – anyone familiar with the Anglo-Boer war? These Afrikaners are tough nuts.
Only country who willingly gave up nuclear weapons!!!.
9. Germany – has suffered from under funding but still up there with 350,000 troops in all area of armed forces and good stock of equipment, Typhoon, Leopard tanks etc
10. Greece (biased)- highly motivated and battle hardened and has airforce second to none!. Used to confrontations with Turkey the Armed Forces are generally capable of fulfilling their mission with standing army of 110,000. Well equipped with leopards, apaches, S300, Scalp, F-16’s , Patriot, Amraam, ericson Awacs, c-27j spartans, MLRS etc….
11. Iran – Strange one yes…NO! standing army of 513,000, biologically and chemically stocked and soon to be nuclear, having to develop indigenous equipment to survive and battle hardened with multiple wars in the recent past.
I could go on all day but as you have noticed top 7 all nuclear capable and have infrastructure to match and meet any eventualities……….remaining countries I had to think extra hard to include battle hardened countries who have to deal with war, terrorism, confrontations as part of everyday life be it past or present!.

RE: What is The Fascination of Beckham as a Footballer?????
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-09-02 AT 11:21 PM (GMT)]>Beckham is always influential, whatever level of the game he plays at. You dis his strike rate Adonis, but can you name either a better dead ball specialist or a better all-round passer in the modern game?
Passing and dribbling are pre-requisites of being an average footballer and to be a great passer or dead ball specialist i would immediately say Roberto Carlos, Zidane, Rivaldo, Figo all of which are finished articles and do not have many improvements to make to their game whereas Becks needs to improve skill factor, dribbling skills etc…
>Don’t you find it worrying that of your list of four one is an alcoholic currently lucky to be alive and another is a drug addict? Hardly suitable role models are they?
No! most kids are out doing drugs, sex and drink so “role models “ as you put it doesn’t come into it….I’m only 24 but I know that kids grow up very quickly these days so if they see genius footballers out on the town every town with me ladies on each arm with bottles of champagnes it doesn’t necessary mean they will do the same.

RE: What is The Fascination of Beckham as a Footballer?????
>Beckham is certainly a better all round player than some, including
Best.
Are we talking about the same Beckham here!!!! best had charisma, an aura , uncomparable skill (maybe Giggs)and you say Becks is better than Best…… i think not!. His whole game is based around his free kicks and even that he needs 5-6 attempts to get them in ( a strike rate of 1/6!!).
Becks passing goes astray so many times that when he scores one of his free kicks it overshadows the poor perfomance he has in matches.
