G-BRNM is displayed inside the museum and is complete and G-BKRL arrived at the museum earlier this year in bits and is stored outside under a tarpaulin.
Inside alongside G-BRNM there are some very nice professional looking models of the aircraft.
A couple of pictures taken at Woodley in Feb 2005. I was amazed at how much they had done to it since I last saw it and I expect by now they have done some more.
Lots of new metal being put back in and other work being done. Keep up the good work.
David Lockspeiser was a pilot for Hawker Siddely and latterly BAC. He flew most of the Hunters from Dunsfold and then moved to Bournemouth where this picture was taken by my father who worked for BAC.
If you go to http://www.airliners.net and search for G-AVOR there are five pictures of it showing both sides which in those pictures are all white. I seem to remember that the port side was painted in camouflage.
Hope this helps
Best regards
Ian Haskell
Nice pictures. Looks like a good day.
Thanks for sharing your pics.
I would also say the Blackburn is XK488 and is definetly Yeovilton where it was displayed outside the museum building for many years. The hangars in the background also look very much like Yeovilton. It is now inside the Cobham Hall store at Yeovilton.
Nice to see some older airshow pictures. Thanks
It would be great to see G-AVMJ painted in an old BEA colour scheme.
Another BAC 1-11 of interest that still survives at Southend is G-OBWD. It is currently painted white with ‘Fresh’ titles from some filming for a Sky TV. It is an ex Briish World aircraft that didn’t get to go to Malta with the rest of them. Tracing it’s history back it is ex G-BDAE of Dan Air and even more significant it is ex G-AXMI of Court Line. How fantastic it would be to see that restored and displayed in full Court Line colours. There is a Court Line association but would need some serious effort to achive this.
When I visited on July 5th the only commercial aircraft on display were two Concordes and the Air France B747. There used to be much more on my last visit about 15 years ago including Air France B707 and Caravelle. Most of these are now stored over the far side of the airfield.
It may have been too close to the end of the air show but I think there is normally an Air Inter Mercure outside with the B747. This was also parked over the far side.
I will make another visit perhaps next year when there is not an air show.
I believe there is another open day of the Dugny store at Le Bourget sometime in September but cant remember where I saw it to check the date.
Yes, I thought there were some suspicious circumstances to the fire but didn’t like to say in case I was wrong.
Wasn’t there some kind of Malaysian connection once as I think G-BMPL was re-registered 9M-MPL at some time.
Was this some kind of take over with a possible aim of restarting prodeuction in Malaysia ??
There was a fatal crash at Ringwood, Hants with one which was operating for the Hampshire Police and the factory at Old Sarum caught fire sometime in the mid eighties ?
I believe G-BMPL was moved by road to Dunsfold in 2003. Anybody know if it is still there. This was also seen at Farnborough air show in 2000. I think this might have some connection with Aces High as it is at Dunsfold.
Any additions/comments ??
Margate sea front air show ??
A few more pictures
The Caribou departed Gloucester for Malta this morning at about 1000.
Very nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. I would liked to have gone but couldn’t make it today. Looks like a good turn out and some sunshine as well. I like the air to air shots. Well done
Was the prototype Beagle 206 G-ARRM present from the museum at Kemble. I saw it dismantled at Kemble about two weeks ago ready for departure by road to Shoreham.
Thanks again
