RE: Kindly post your nation special forces images

No. The M16 is probably there due to exerices with US troops. Croats as do Yugoslavs primarily use Ak-47/74 or the local made versions of those and specops usualy prefer Hk MP5. Though in croatia now you cand find Gali (though not common) and in Yugoslavia localy made version od AK-74SU/AKR is being intrduced insted of 47/74 versions. But as I mentioned Mp5 is still weapon of choice.

Now that i look closer…. it could be true… but then again.. maybe Zastvas idea of developing m23 is taking parts of two other rfiles and puting them together 🙂 would not be the first time… Ill have to get more photos to draw acurate conclusion

    RE: eastern sniper comparison…

Well ive been told by someone who fired it that it can shoot accurately enough at 2500m… perhaps its officialy designated at 2000.

As for M76 with bipods, i dont know about rest of the RS but in ares where i was about every 3rd sniper had one.. and they were operating outside urban combat zone… snipers there didnt use bipods .. i assume there is a reason.

PS: Have you seen photos of zastavas “bullpup” type rifle.. m23.. just go down to the bottom.

Ink. Yes ive seen the M76 with bipod during the Bosinan War They were commonly used by Drinski Vukovi units and not that of a uncommon occurance.. if i manage do digg up a photo somwhere ill make sure i post it here.

Regading your other comments. I exactlly agree m76 in close combat and woodland areas is mucj more deadly that Crna Strela. Because those situations are suted for Marksmen/Sharp Shooter than a true longe range Sniper. However the Crna Strela first saw combat in Kosovo in hands of border guards and SpecOps and I can tell you that ive been told form First person accouts it was a very usefull tool.. especially in border control. With its range of 2500m + it ment you could take out taret from relative safety and not be detected. I was also told that early models had problematic optics and made quite a lot smoke when fired.. dont know id series 2 have been improved.

    [updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-04-02 AT 11:53 AM (GMT)]M76 ( text and photos from snipercentral.com )

    Caliber 7.92 x 57 Mauser
    Action Gas operated semi-automatic
    Length 44.69″ (1135mm)
    Weight 9.24 lbs (4.2 kg)
    Barrel Length 21.65 inches (550mm)
    Magazine 10 round detachable box
    Sight Standard Kalashnikov iron sights
    Teloscopic Sight M76 4x24mm (PSO-1)
    Stock Slightly modified Kalashnikov wood
Max Effective Range 800+ meters (875+ yards)

The M76 is a modified AK-47/74 that has been accurized with a longer and heavier barrel and a modified stock that is more comfortable and ergonomical. The M76 has also been chambered in 7.92×57 Mauser, a much better long range caliber then either the 7.62x39mm or 5.45x39mm calibers of the rifles its derived from. The M76 Teloscopic sight is essentially a Russian PSO-1 with active IR illumination detection ability and a lighted reticule. Its calibrated with a BDC out to 1200 meters, but thats fairly optimistic for the performance of the rifle. The rifle also comes with a 5x80mm passive night vision scope, which appears to be about the equivilent of a gen II night vision device. (Good to about 500 meters on a bright moon, clear night).
The rifle is comfortable to shoot and the 7.92 Mauser offers pretty good ballistics, with 800 meters being an acheivable range for the average sniper, and 1000 meters for the expert. The recoil is light, but there can be a heat problem with successive rapid fire shots. Overall, the rifle is a solid “field” sniper system with about 1.5 – 2.0 MOA and is very functional, as proven in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Just to add that both of these are short range snipers.. more of a “sharp shooters” rifle if you look at it from the western point of view.. The Crna Streka (black arrow) is the first Yugoslav ture sniper from that perspective.

Glenn How can you even compare the TITANIC and the Ben Hur… I dont know what the morans in hollywood were thinking when they gave that piece of crap 11 oscars.. I my mind any move that is a remake on another movie.. (and yes there were so many bloody titanic movies before.. including one which won OSCAR in 1937..) is unoriginal piece of crap and should be banned by law.

    RE: Favourite War Movies

The Sound Track to the last of the Monhnicans is amazing..and movio is prety good.

Personaly i like the movies in ancient times and middle ages.. Agincourt was good the naval fight in Ben hur is one of the most amazing scences ever,, the starting fight in gladiator is prety good. Of ww2 films i liked Enemy at the Gates.

And the worst movies have to be “Pearl harbour”.. sorry after being so much interested in the event and doing bit of a research on it, the movie absolutely disapointed me… And the biggest pile of crap was and is Behind the enemy lines.

And yes i strongly recomend the film SAVIOUR with Denis Quaid ,,, only western made movie that comes close to representing war in bosnia.. though the story line is bit questionable.

    RE: A Georgian scenario

I does not sound far fetched… with US “interests” getting now right on the Russian borders (and we can all asume how yanks would react uf ruskies found new “interests in lets say cuba) there is little wonder Russian Nationalists are agitated. the area is one of the biggest untaped reservoairs of oil in world, and US is prety adoment in securing the cheap source of it.. ie doing everything to by pass russia.

Frankly and sayinf it openly.. it would be rather stupid decision for russia not to get involved considering potential financial gain.. its far more worth it than checenia… yet there is a problem of significant resistance which will in no doubt be supported by USA who wont at all be happy but appart from military aid could do nothing else. Russians perhaps could counter this by threatning to supply arms to places where USA would not like to see them.. Say providing some AA batteries to lebanon would certainly piss off Israel and their strong loby goups in USA who’d want to stop it.

Im not saying the Russians should return to Cold war tik for tak moves but they have to start taking stonger and more agresive stands specialy to US if they want to improve thir situation.

Well right now am a proud (yea right )owner of 2000 model Black Chrysler Neon RT ..with few minor modifications.. (like twin ball bearing turbos and nitros boost hehehe) but im thinking of upgrading to new wheels and then offcourse boosting them :).

So my dream machine would be RUF 1997 CRT-2 911 Porsche… but at 750 000 USD a pop its bit out of my range :(…

So my next set of wheels will probably be either Subaru Liberty B4,,, a wonderful sedan that comes out of factory ready for race track.. not to mention all the boost possibility, or Toyota Supra Twin turbo (anybody saw fast and furious) or Skyline GT-R … an ultimate Japanese racer and booster dream 🙂

RE: MID EAST :PEACE IS THE SOLUTION.

I just saw a Breaking news live on CNN… looks like Merkavas are on the move in the Ramallah… apparetly right up to Arafats HQ.

RAMALLAH, West Bank (CNN) — Israeli tanks rolled into the West Bank town of Ramallah Friday morning, Palestinian sources said, in what Israeli military sources called a “targeted action.”

An exchange of gunfire between Palestinians and Israelis was also reported and Palestinian sources said five Palestinians were wounded.

The military response came in the wake of Wednesday’s terrorist bombing of a hotel in Israel that killed 20 people at a Passover meal and Thursday’s announcement by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat that Palestinians were ready to implement a U.S. cease-fire plan “without any conditions.”

Israeli military sources said the operation was a “targeted action in Ramallah” and that there was a possibility it would extend to other cities, according to the operational needs.

But they said this action would likely be confined to Ramallah and not expand to other cities.
