Well, we’ll all die sometime. Isn’t it about time that nature gave us another cull? It was thought to be AIDS/HIV but that’s obviously working too slow. Seeing as Anna is convinced it will hit us soon, perhaps we should all say goodbye now, before it’s too late?

Hi, Dave.

From your quote it seems Mrs. Lucas had been in New Zealand though whether a native New Zealander is unclear. If she was, perhaps it was thought appropriate to bury her in this plot as she would be close to fellow New Zealanders. Or if she was English, perhaps she had no family so it was decided to inter her at Feltwell.

As to the military funeral, I would suggest it was because she had a considerable influence on the Squadron during a particularly difficult time.

My point is that I personally don’t see the point in discussing what is going to be there and what isn’t. I feel I am priveleged to be able to see what I do see. Ok, this aircraft doesn’t turn up, that one goes tech, but look what we do get to see. I personally don’t enjoy all the speculation which is why I don’t join in.

But to answer Rlanghams question, if you’re anything like me you will miss seeing something because you are never altogether sure what’s happening next.

Go, enjoy, and don’t be disappointed by any no-shows. What you will see more than makes up for it.

I’ve been to the last three and NEVER been disappointed. It’s worth it. The flying is superb and a wonderful showcase not only for the pilots but all those behind the scenes who spend time barking their knuckles getting the aircraft ready.

The Legends are not only the aircraft, but the people as well.

Now can we put this thread back in its box to be unwrapped only within six weeks of the event?

Actually it’s none!

You said read THIS and count the F’s. As far as I can see there are no F’s in THIS unless you have one hell of a speech impediment.

Thank you for that, it is most appreciated. It seems I shall have to make a trip to Feltwell myself one day.

Are you sure Mrs. Lucas was the wife of the Station Commander? Station Commanders were usually Group Captains or at least Wing Commanders were they not? As to Mrs. Lucas’ presence, I believe Feltwell was bombed on a couple of occasions so maybe she died as a result of enemy action? Or perhaps she was deemed to have had such an influence on the Station or one of the based Squadrons that it was thought proper that she be interred there. Interesting.

If able Rob, would you mind posting a couple of images of the CWGC plot and the Cenotaph at Feltwell in the days following the Cermony? Particularly interested in graves relating to 37 Squadron airmen for obvious reasons.

XL360 has not long been repainted at MAM ! We finished her off in about september !

And very nice she looks too!

Now, when do you start on the Argosy?

I believe the AVP at Manchester is slated for a possible move, maybe to the southside, IIRC, and that will mean yet another move for the recently arrived Trident as well as Concorde, the DC10 nose, the RJX and possibly the Vampire. Ramp space is at a premium and it is also possible that the last remaining original building at Ringway, the old Officer’s Mess, is also lokely to go in the pursuit of space. By the same token one wonders on the likelihood of the land along the road where the Officer’s Mess stands being compulsorily purchased at some point?

It is the issue of a ‘big shed’ as Moggy calls it which is the biggest problem. The collection at Cosford is starting to look very shabby and they could all do with going undercover. It would be nice to see a central collection of airliners somewhere. I’ve never been but have often wondered if Lasham might be a possibility? Or even Kemble now some airliners are flown there to be parted out and then scrapped.

Having spent 20 minutes scratching himself and staring vacantly into nothing, Snapper read a serious question and exclaimed,

He’s a student now. More to be pitied than blamed.

I visited Thorpe Abbotts about ten years ago and admit to being very moved by the whole place.

Regarding Duxford’s airliners. I agree it is a shame. Cosford’s British Airways collection is beginning to look a little the worse for wear.

Although snapper’s comment was very much tongue in cheek (I hope :confused: ) we have to remember that for many it is the first trip to an airport or on an airliner that lights the spark that eventually turns us into passionate anoraks.
