You can’t get your Dad’s records because he is still alive. He can get them for himself though. As for yours I’m not sure. I would have a word with your local TA unit as they can probably advise.

I think the address for your Dad’s records will be:

Army Personnel Centre,
Historic Disclosures,
Mail Point 400,
Kentigern House,
65, Brown Street,
Glasgow,
G2 8EX.

Send them as much information as you can to help them in tracing the records, name, dob, service number, units served with. Apparently they then send you a form to fill in and advise you of costs which I believe is around £25. And then it’s just a matter of waiting.

Funnily enough we do have public libraries. It’s not well known yet but we even have electricity. The inter-library loan service is wonderful, and relatively inexpensive (only 75p in Walsall) but is notoriously slow in coming up with the goods. They also tell you they will buy in books for you but when you thell them the retail price is over £20 there’s this sharp intake of breath followed by a few minutes of muttering and tutting before asking if you really need that title. I can understand them, Walsall could probably find a better use for their £20 than a book on armaments or some such.

I shall give the library a try, thanks for the tip.

Thanks to everyone for replying. As usual with this forum, if people can’t give the information you need someone always comes up with a reference. The list of books I need to add to my collaction grows ever longer in proportion to the speed with which my bank balance shrinks.

You may not have noticed but she is already locked up. She currently resides in a women’s prison in your fair city. She killed no one, she wasn’t even there when Huntley decided he had a golden opportunity to commit murder, twice. She knew there was something wrong but she was faced with two powerful factors. The first was her love for Huntley and the second was her fear of him. She has been sentenced according to the law and has already served 18 months of that sentence. Being tagged is different from being free. She will face extremely strong restrictions on what she can and cannot do and where she can and cannot go. She is likely to have to change her identity and may have to have police protection.

In this case the sentencing is far too soft. The sentence is cumulative. Believe it or not he only got four months for causing death by dangerous driving. The rest of the sentence was made up of a few months here and a few months there for failing to stop and a series of motoring offences such as not having a license, driving without insurance etc.

The Crowood book is out of print but I will endeavour to get a copy. The other two references mean nothing to me but I shall try to get hold of them.

The references to Type “B” and Type “C” bombs are taken directly from a Squadron ORB. Just wondered what they were and how they differed.

I would be interested to know how many Wellingtons were equipped with the dustbin turret. I have numerous references from aircrew correspondence to the dustbin turret. In 37 Squadron’s case there seems to be a great deal of difference of opinion as to how many aircraft of the Squadron were so equipped.

Hope that clarifies the question for you.

Have to agree with everyone else’s sentiments. The whole thing was a pleasure to watch but tonight’s episode was incredible. Dave’s face while he gave his display, knowing who was watching him, Pete Brothers from the ground and countless hundreds from above. A very special moment.

I’m fairly sure I couldn’t, not at any point in my life. I’m probably far too selfish. In a different way I wouldn’t want to. It was THEIR time. It was an emotive time, thankfully we’ve never since been faced with the threat they had to face. I become unashamedly emotional when I think what they did, how they lived, laughed, loved and died. And I feel pride for them. Pete Brothers was right when he ranked their achievement alongside that of the Armada or Agincourt.

Each and every day, at some point, I think about what they achieved, and I thank them. I only wish I could do more.

Just a belated note to thank Steve, Robbo and Geoff for a very enjoyable day out yesterday.

Robbo, superb photo’s.

Impressions of ‘Milestones of Flight.’ Well, I liked it. As for the milestones themselves? I can understand the cruise missile. After all wasn’t it one of those that hit the wrong country a few years ago? That must be what qualifies it for inclusion. The Typhoon? Obviously in as a result of a typographical error, surely that should be millstone? It’s a shame about the Mustang but it certainly looks a treat. The two Great War aircraft are very impressively posed as is the Hawker biplane (Fury, Hart, Hind?) The use of mannequins throughout the whole museum is well thought out. Isn’t the Tempest huge? So, overall I liked it.

Lancaster on a perch? No this is not another attempt to rattle Lancman but I do think it Makes the Lancaster more accessible now. Perhaps at some point they’ll bring it down again when they’ve finished all the shuffling about. But what are they thinking about with the poor old Battle? Stuffed against a wall with barely any light falling on it. We all know they were torn apart in May of 1940 but the crews gave their all in those aircraft. Is the RAF, and hence the Museum, ashamed that they have a survivor? Throw the Merlin/EH101 out and give the Battle some pride back.

Why would there be hard feelings? It is the diversity of opinion and the tolerance of alternative views which make this such a good forum.

The fact that you are wrong and I am right is your loss. 😉 🙂 😀

Please not that the last sentence was written with tongue firmly in cheek.

On a serious note I do see what Duesseldwarf means about wheelchairs being the airport’s responsibility, but that is an argument Ryanair should have with Stansted, not Mr Ross.
