OK, but how about the land based radar which they’ve been talking about on tv? Couldn’t they have warned the ship that it was about to ‘go bump in the night?’ At the moment the English Channel is beginning to look like a bad rush hour on the M6.

RE: re-incarnation

Yet another topic which I have to keep an open mind on. People who have had regression therapy seem to point towards the idea that we may have had a former life, but how would it work? Do we have a say in who we become? Or is it just arbitrary? If we had a choice I suspect we would like to return as someone whose life made a difference such as curing cancer, being a great inventor, a philanthropist, artist or scientist. But isn’t it equally as likely that we could return as a serial killer?

As for resurrection? I hope not, dying once should be good enough for anyone. They talk of the second coming of the Son of God. If the current state of the world is not sufficient to warrant His return now, (should he exist), then I dread to think what a mess we’ll be in when He does decide to come back.

RE: Ghosts

Hi, Ant.

I’m not sure what to make of it all, but I have had one or two disturbing experiences and another which was strangely comforting. Whether ghosts exist as a tortured form unable to leave the place of their life or death, I don’t know, but I read or heard somewhere that they were believed to mere echoes of a past event which had enormous impact at the time. It was described as like being a video picture on an endless loop, with some people more susceptible to seeing the image than others.

That introduces another interesting question, is it possible that ‘ghosts’ exist on a slightly different plane? Whilst working with autistic children I often witnessed them having conversations with someone you or I could not see. Nothing strange about them talking to imaginary friends, we almost all do it as children and many of us will do it again as we reach the end of our lives. It wasn’t the mere fact of them talking, rather it is the content of the conversation and sometimes the context which was baffling. It is something to which I am compelled to keep an open mind on, my own experiences merely adding to the confusion of the subject.

many people have difficulty with the idea of seeing ghosts, your experience could well be down to illness and fatigue. Many people say there are ghosts and that this indicates there is life after death and ask the question “If there is life after death or ghosts, why doesn’t someone come back and tell us?” I said this to somebody once and their answer was “well, maybe we’re the ghosts?”

I have had several strange experiences and remain sceptical, still clinging doggedly to the fence, holding on like grim death. The question now for me is do I believe what my head tells me is empirically true or follow where I suspect my heart would like to lead me?
