RE: What Are You Scared Of?

Didn’t somebody famous once say “there is nothing to fear but fear itself…”?

Who was that? And what do they know about it anyhow?

    RE: ID time

    Thank you Keith!

Never noticed the Britannia, suppose I was too excited looking at three Constellations! Weren’t those Ambassadors a superb looking aircraft?

Looking at the building and the people it definitely looks like late fifties or very early sixties. Do you think it possible that the people on the roof terrace are actually standing on the first incarnation of the Queen’s Building at Heathrow? The sheds in the background look very reminiscent of those where Terminal 4 now stands to me. Anyway, what other UK airfield could have sustained such activity at that period in history?

    David,

    thanks for the indulgence.

A civil scheme for a Beaufighter? Mmmmmm. Have to think about that one. In the meantime I’ll just take the colour scheme of one of the strike wings and underneath the tailplane in very small script would be the legend ‘Air Apparent.’

RE: The Ultimate Corporate Warbird !

    David,

can you indulge me and let me have two as I have the flu and trying to decide is making my headache worse? Please?

I’d like a Beaufighter but I don’t think it would be allowed as I’d like to keep the rockets and the cannon. Where I live they might come in handy (LOL).

Failing that I think I’d have to agree with PII and go for a Dakota please.

RE: What Are You Scared Of?

I think it’s difficult to say what you are ‘really’ scared of sometimes, it’s easy to mix up fear with an intense dislike. For instance I dislike spiders, I’m not too keen on snakes (although I have held them).

As for fear, well, the only thing, so far, that really terrifies me is fire. I’m 41 years old now and can still barely bring myself to light a match. I’ve been involved in two fires, both in the workplace, and strangely enough they are NOT the reason I am terrified of fire, it stems back to an incident when I was about four years old. I leaned back against a lit gas cooker and my jacket caught fire. Fortunately I wasn’t burned but it was damned close.

I can also relate to what someone else said about heights. I’m fine and could walk to the edge of a cliff or a building and enjoy the view, but if anyone else is there I get really scared for them and worry about them falling. Weird, isn’t it?

RE: School can be so cruel!

Well Ja, it just shows how wrong people can be doesn’t it? I mean you haven’t done any of those things they voted you most likely to….

    Have you?

    The board needs to know.

Will the real Ja Worsley now identify himself?

RE: Iraq; a question of oil.

    Cyrus,

“On second thought, whatever army the French/Belgians throw together will probably just surrender before the first shot is fired anyway. :D”

Whereas the Americans have a tendency to enter a conflict two or three years after it started?

    RE: ID time

The 1st picture looks to me like it could be Terminal 1 at Heathrow in the 1950’s. I think the aircraft are Constellations and a Viscount in the distance (would those buildings be the Hunting and Fairey sheds?) and in the foreground I think a DC-6, Viscounts, a DC-3 and an Airpeed Ambassador.

2nd picture is a Stratoliner/Stratocruiser and another Airspeed Ambassador? Probably wrong, but never mind.

    Well done Scooter!

This started off as a thread for people to remember those lost in the tragedies of September 11th and the board supported it with heartfelt expressions of sympathy. It was an admirable topic to post which was supported admirably….Until you came along.

This is not what Kabir wanted (sorry if I’m putting words into your mouth Kabir), not what any of us wanted. What you have written has absolutely nothing to do with rememberance but everything to do with your pathetic attempts to justify America’s response. Who knows? you may be right after all, but this is not the place to discuss it. Start another thread, let’s go over it again and again. You have shown great insensitivity in producing this vitriolic and whining rant in a space which was being used for contemplative expressions of sympathy for those who were lost and their families.

Sorry, Scooter, but your arrogance and insensitivity just astounds me.
