So, they were one and a half hors into the flight which meant one and a half hours back. Then waiting until 16.35, which means they’re still waiting witha seven? hour flight to look forward to….
So 10 hours in the air and a wait of several hours, all for a journey scheduled to last 3 hours. Now that’s what I call progress.
I wonder if they’ll get their money back?

If the ship is still stuck there couldn’t she be stabilised and turned into a prison ship? I believe we in the UK have some experience of running a penal colony somewhere down that way…
Seriously, I think Jonesy said it all. The Captain is being philosophical because it seems he probably wasn’t in actual command at the time. It is just an accident in poor conditions. I don’t think it matters whether the ship is repaired or scrapped now. The good thing is there were no casualties.

And, as I’ve mentioned before I have received and Air Force ROTC scholarship so I plan to join those who fight for the freedom that I now enjoy some day. Don’t criticize me in that area as its probably quite obvious to you I have a lot of pride in my country and the only thing stopping me from being in the military now is my
age. In four years time provided things go right, I’ll be an officer in the USAF. Time will tell.”
Funnily enough Phantom I thought you’d throw that back at me as I wrote it. I should know enough about you now to realise that you are not that slow on the uptake! I think it is good to have pride in your country, but it doesn’t have to be blind. Your country deserves criticism no more and probaly an awful lot less than many of the other countries in the world. And it’s big enough and ugly enough to take such criticism without thinking the world is against you. We strange and liberal Europeans are just a bit more sanguine about receiving criticism than you Americans. After all, no-one criticises Europe and the EU more than it’s own citizens.
As I’ve said before, I wish you nothing but success in your admirable choice of profession, and, your reasons for wishing to enter this profession are something to be justifiably proud of. You may find this hard to believe but I do enjoy your participation in these discussions and I do respect your views (even if they are wrong LOL)! Why else would I have rated you?
You just need to let your skin get a wee bit thicker.

Many people are agreeing with you on a lot of those points. It’s like I’ve said before, many good Americans have died proving how great your country is and America as a whole have probably had a good influence on the world. I think that what angers and frustrates many people on the forum is the fact that you refuse to accept anyone else’s opinion. Going back to the P-40 discussion (this is relevant) it died a natural death, people had cotributed what they wanted to and also learned what they needed. However, you, as an American, had to declare yourself (and the P-40) the winner of the most underrrated fighter thread… And therein lies America’s problem. They have to win and be seen to be winners.

And there we have the problem in your own words, you just don’t care what others think. Thankfully not all Americans think like you. It seems America goes on the defensive over the slightest criticism they receive and change things to suit their own ends. A case in point is this thing with the war crimes tribunal. Apparently the UN has granted America and Americans immunity from prosecution for one year should a case arise. One law for one lot of people and one for America. You put yourselves across as the world’s policemen while you as a nation are happy, no, in fact you insist, that international law does not apply to you. So would I be wrong in the analogy that Americas role in the world equates to that of a crooked Sheriff in the Old West?
As for your and Geforce’s, shall we say, differences of opinion, most of us find it amusing. Geforce has described himself in the past as ‘having a bit of an attitude’ and is very opinionated, but he does put up an argument. You, however, instantly resort to whining how unfair it is that people criticise America without really contributing to the discussion (or should that be argument?) Telling us you’re sick of this crap and that we should get a life does nothing but disservice to your forefathers or to those Americans now who put their lives on the line to give you the freedom to moan.
I wouldn’t say to you to get a life PII, you’re obviouly so insecure about the one you’ve got.

There were British forces, Canadians, French, Belgian, Dutch, Norwegians and others from other countries I have forgotten. If Britain and her allies had folded in 1940 or 41 Hitler would have eventually turned his attention to the States. It may be true that Britain and her allies may not have been able to finish the war without America’s help, but without the stand made in the early years of the war the world would be a very different place now.

It is also mightily offensive to our forefathers that America seems to forget that Europe had been at war long before they became involved as a nation. In the Beginning, America gave the allies, such as they were at that time, no chance of winning the war. In fact Joseph Kennedy stated that it was a lost cause.
“We have a very old saying in America “Freedom isn’t Free.”
Are you now trying to deny us the freedom to speak that so many of your forefathers died for?

Wityh some of America’s attitudes and actions that question is becoming ever harder to answer.
