They’re “completing” trials for the last 4 or 5 years, IIRC, and every single year our officials are promising that “S-350 Vityaz will be fielded this or the next year”. Just like the 40N6 missile for S-400 which is “completing” these trials since 2009, when Ashurbeily(ex-head of A-A) had declared this for the first time.
First time i saw 9M96 mockup at MAKS’1999. And even then it was already under development for at least of two or three years. AFAIK, the problem was described as “the missile is “refusing” to hit its targets” – in other words, there is a problem with its flight-control or/and homing system.
9M96 was intended to become a common missile family for S-300PM(U)2, S-400 and later for Redut, Poliment-Redut and S-350. But it didn’t, yet. That’s why i called it a semi-paper project.
Actually, even before Gorshkov, it failed for many times on 20380 corvettes. Unfortunately, 9M96 is still a semi-paper-project with a doubtful reliability.
@Deino
Because numerology rocks! :stupid:
Scar, maybe you can answer this for me, but what about Mikran making GaN modules for Kret? Apparently they are working on it:
Dunno, what really should i say? “Show me a single working GaN AESA serial produced radar”? They’re declaring: “our company is currently developing the GaN MIC technology.”. Ok, nice, but this is what i was talking about earlier – developing or working on something isn’t equal to have something real and serial produced. Again, look at AESA Zhuk.
Where and who said they built GaN modules? I’ve read only about some abstract expirements with “GaN transistors and amplifiers”.
Scar, care to share any sources? From what I recall, they tested GaN modules a few years ago. Why 7 years away?
Tests and experiments =/= serial production. For example, Fazotron has tested its first Zhuk-A prototype ten years ago, in 2007, but still struggle to establish its serial production and make it through the State Trials. Read this interview with Yuri Beliy in National Defence: http://www.oborona.ru/includes/periodics/authors/2016/0922/185919375/detail.shtml
I have yet to see any end product that uses Ga/N module or even advertised for it.
In Russia, we’re at least 7 years away from GaN AESA serial production. US was the first who fielded AESA-radars based on the GaN transceivers.
Sad news.( My condolences to the pilot’s family.
Better than Klyon, but i hope later bunchs of SM3 will be equipped with a T/220 targeting pod.
@Austin
Incredibly honest and objective review. My respect to Pukhov.
For me it’s a disaster, but you – may think whatever you want. TBH, i don’t care.
Yeas, it’s a *******ing disaster when attack heli accidently shooting its weapons on the parking full of people. If someone would have died, it would be a tragedy.
Video recorded by guncam of the helo. Looks like it really was an FCS failure – rockets were launched right in that moment when the Master has been turned on.
