Don’t the Netherlands use converted DC-10s with refuelling boom?
Looking at the LCA, and thinking of the naval variant that is due to fly in 2007, what kind of range are we talking about? And internal fuel load? Which ever way you look at it, the LCA is small.
Not just that, but you have to wonder about approach speeds. Delta’s traditionally have had higher approach speeds haven’t they? The Grippen and Rafale are said to have excellent approach characteristics, but they use canards. Would a naval LCA have similar characteristics?
Thanks, Phrozen.
Also 500 is far larger than the PAF confirmed buy of 200 so it means a large order for PLAAF too. There is no combination of prospective buyers that would come up with 250 or so more (taking spares into account) if the PLAAF is not in the mix.
How many spares would you need for a force of 150-200 planes?

Yes, I got two b/w pics of Red Stars F-5Es (not VFC-13 agressors, the REAL Russian Tigers)
Any chance you could post those pics?

The UK is buying the A-330 Tanker while the Germans are buying the A-310 MRTT.
Didn’t know where else to put this or whether this information has already been posted on this forum. Tom Cooper made a post on pakdef (http://www.pakdef.info NOT pakistanidefence.com) yesterday which explained why the Key Pubs F-16 special claimed that 3 PAF F-16s were shot down during Kargil:
Well, the editor of “Special” issues of AFM, Mark Nicholls, is informed about this matter already since two weeks, so there is no need to write him at all since long.
It was so that first the f-16.net has plagiarised tables for Pakistani, Soviet, Indian, Greek and Turkish air-to-air victories (those that are F-16-related) from ACIG.org website without taking care about what is marked in which manner there and making difference between green and viollet.
Then Mr. Nicholls has taken the data from f-16.net and simply put them into that article wihout ever consulting anybody about what’s he doing, nor coming to the idea to check the data in the form he’s taken them.
The f-16.net has meanwhile admitted plagiarisation and removed the offending data from their website. Mr. Nicholls has also apologised for plagiarisation, explaining he didn’t know where is the data actually from, and has promised to publish a correction in the next issue of AFM (I doubt this is going to happen, but that’s what he said he’ll do).
Things like these happen when people simply lift stuff from somebody else and do not think about the consequences, nor know really well about the topic they are attempting to write about. Meanwhile, it’s at least the sixth similar faux-pas that happened to redactions of different Keymags magazines in the last seven months (and it wasn’t the worst one yet).
Heres the ulr if anyone wants to see for themselves:

BTW I found it on PAKDEF…
Do you mean http://www.pakdef.info or http://www.pakistanidefence.com as they are completely different sites, and you really shouldn’t confuse the two.

I’ve only seen 2 HT-233 images and neither is anything resembling detailed enough to show a pattern on the face of the array. Is there a clearer picture available you can share?
This one from sinodefence.com is pretty clear. It seems to show a large primary array along with 2 smaller arrays below it:

Have you got any sources to say that China was involved in developing the Nishan? All the Pakistani sources say its indigenous.
Surely the best solution would be to upgrade the Gr.9 Harriers with an An/APG-65 set like the Marine Harriers. That way you preserve some A-A ability, while the APG-65 set is pretty useful for A-G work in bad weather.
The ticker at the top of the BBC news website is reporting that Airbus has won the contract. No story on it yet though.
Any ideas what routes it will be used on? If its going to be used for the LHR-KHI direct flight I might risk flying PIA next time i go to Pakistan.
What happened to that helicopter? Is it an Mi-8?

Sub-launched MUPSOW wouldn’t be that big a threat. 120km range would pretty much limit it to coastal target, so we’re not talking Tomohawk type threat (e.g Delhi and other inland cities wouldn’t be under threat). You’d need to compare MUPSOW’s dimensions with Excoet to see how easy it would be to adapt Agosta 90b to fire it i think.
