It isn’t at Hendon (as per the thread title) but is at Cosford (per your post). There is an outline of one painted in the car park at Hendon though.

You can get closeb up to a steamed-up, fishy-smelling polytunnel, but it is not really photographable as the tunnel is covered in condensation and spray misters are running all the time. The Hampden is in the Michael Beetham Conservation Centre, which is closed to the public apart from one week a year in November.

However, even in the US there is a morotorium on issuing new exemptions for ride programmes, and in some cases (including, I undertstand Planes of Fame at Chino) existing exemptions are not being renewed.

They’ve just been cut. They were damaged in a storm, at least two decades ago, when the tips were bent due to contact with, IIRC, the crowdline barriers at Duxford.

Greg Herrick still has his in the US, although when I spoke with him at Blakesburg in 2012 he said that he was not currently operating it

Perhaps you’d rather they built it out of metal?

It is not the original, which is in the EAA Museum at Oshkosh. It is the replica built by a US-based group over the past 5 years that is going into the museum exhibition for the rest of this year.

…….missing out of one horizontal stabiliser………

Ah, that explains it, the aeroplane should have been built with a tailplane, it seems they fitted some American airplane parts instead. 😉

It is being put on static display in a special exhibition at a private Bugatti museum in California from next month until December.

It is with Shipping and Airlines at Biggin Hill, in a rather nice blue and yellow scheme. They also have the Civilian Coupe, Sportster and a Miles Messenger.

I think it a safe assumption Bruce, since the aircraft is now being offered on the open market, that the outcome of those discussions did not bode well for seeing it operated in the UK under the auspices of the CAA.

What are their plans for it? Restoration to fly, or static?

It’s good to hear that it has found a new owner after languishing in limbo for over a decade now since South Coast Airways folded.

Until the new ones arrive what tankers does the RAF have left? It was only last year some lunatic wanted the VC10s and Tristars removed and sensible RAF seniors pointed out we would have no tankers at all…

An interesting interpretation of the true facts. In reality, the planned OSD was due to be last year for the TriStar, and the year before for VC-10, and both were extended in service to cover the slippage in the Voyager programme.

If they won’t fly a VC-10 in I doubt that they will allow a TriStar to land there.
