Most of the US aviation community have a downer on Yeager. Probably on account of him being an asshole.
I’d add Bud Anderson’s book to that list. The section on his postwar test flying experiences was a real eye-opener.
A Fisher XP-75 Eagle calendar, apparently. 🙂
At lest that would make a change from celebrating ‘Britain’s legendary fighter jet’.
……question is does the runway remain active to bring in exhibits.
….like the VC-10?
Miles Hawk Speed Six please. 🙂
I thought we weren’t allowed to talk about that either Andy…………
I’d suggest that this thread belongs more properly in the GD section.
Possibly, but they are unlikely to have English as a first language, or be versed in US Forces operating procedures, unlike the US pilots flying for these organisations.
The last time MiG-21s were tried for that sort of work it didn’t end well. RIP Doug Schultz. 🙁
Do operators make much money from film or tv work?
Yes
They have just announced on their Facebook page that they will be operating the two remaining Air Atlantique Dakotas, G-ANAF from next year (in an invasion-striped scheme) and G-AMSV from 2015 (when its current contract, whatever that is, ends). They’ve not, however, said whether these are acquisitions or leases. Both will be based at North Weald.
I rather like the sky/grey scheme. We used to have it on the Swordfish, Sea Fury, Firefly and Sea Hawk in days gone by, now all of them are either lost or repainted. I think the Seafire was the last example of this scheme still flying in the UK, I’d quite like to see it remain that way.
Is that a camouflaged scheme, or the rather dull grey and white scheme that the RNHF seem to like putting on all their Sea Furies and Sea Hawk these days?
It happens more often than you might think. Chuck Gardner safely landed the Cavanaugh P-51 Mustang ‘The Brat III’ on a dirt roadway after suffering engine problems a couple of weeks back.
Gradual drawdown of the fleet. 2 squadrons (including 617) go next March, leaving just 3 operational squadrons at Marham. Lossie then takes the Typhoons from Leuchars, plus one new Typhoon squadron.
