I was never quite sure what it was doing in Hendon in the first place.
Any update on the DH.9 Andy? For me, that holds far more interest than yet another new-build Spitfire (although I know I’ll be in the minority here with that view!) 🙂
Yes, but it is only updated sporadically (nearly a year since the last one) and doesn’t give much info other than short photo captions
We already have one current thread (as well as the more contentious, now deleted, one!)

A nice obituary, perhaps it would be better to append it to the existing thread?
Another one is Chuck Wahl’s website detailing his restorastions of an SBD Dauntless and SB2C Helldiver for Jim Slattery
Here’s a good blog for you to follow. Tom Reilly’s XP-82 Twin Mustang project

And I also have a great one on the restoration of the Vacher Hurricane, the title and author of which escape me at this moment.

Author is Peter Vacher!

Quite a few Corsairs have been given the second seat mod. Sometimes the additional windows are tinted blue so they are not so obvious.
It is quite claustrophobic in the back; in fact, I turned down a flight in one a couple of years back.
Exactly, HP111. It is called ‘supply and demand’. This is the reason that they have been building brand-new Merlin Spitfires and P-51s for years, whilst the likes of Griffon Spitfires, Hurricanes and Tempests are comparitively unloved. Back to the subject of Hurricanes, we owe a huge debt of thanks to Hawker Restorations. 6 of the 12 currently-airworthy examples have come from their shop, and they are the only people doing Hurricanes in volume on a commercial basis. Without their input over the past 15 or more years, there would only be a handfull airworthy worldwide.
And on that note, I thought I heard Mr Chabbert at this years Legends say that ex-Wallis example was deemed the nicest flying of all the current Hurricanes, by those that had flown other examples.
That’s interesting, considering that they nearly all came out of the same shop.
Actually, I think I’m more impressed by the fact that someone was actually listening to M.Chabbert. Although not as ‘anti’ as many on here, I just tend to tune out his ramblings these days.
Any reason its merlin is red?
Some US overhaul shops like the coloured blocks. Hovey generally used to do his in gold. I think red is Mike Nixon’s signature colour.
Or even beforehand? Where is JDK when you need him, that was always one of his favourite hobby-horses! 😀
Thanks Ben, is that a Ditheridge one?
Is there any news on the rather unfortunate Lone Star example, which was involved in a groundloop, followed by being hit up the backside by Bill Greenwood’s Spitfire, and then later being given a saltwater bath courtesy of Hurricane Ike?
Was there ever a year that there were more Hurris up for grabs or changing hands? G-HURI was (unsuccssfully) auctioned recently, but is presumably still available at the right price. One up for sale at Thruxton, the Russell one, the NZ one sold to France, the Friedkin one sold to Peter Monk’s operation at Biggin, the JNE project in Washington State up for sale, Yagen’s one being touted around.
Yep, Simon’s just added the Hurricane too. US$2m
