Big shock, Lets hope a few of his collection end up in Briton.
Brighton?
Will the buyer get both of them (the one that flies, and the one that came out of the sand)?
I see the team are down to fly at Manston this weekend. Is this their display debut? Their website and Twitter feed seem to have stagnated.
How did it happen that “the anti nuclear lot banned certain aircraft from appearing at a display”? Surely it it up to airshow organisers who they book to appear at their events. Where and when was this so-called ‘ban’ imposed?
Never say never, but it becomes more unlikely as each year passes. It has been parked for nearly a decade now. A shame, as that would make it the only flying early-model Connie.
I wonder if their DC-2 will ever fly again, the world seems to have run out of airworthy ones of those too.
Where’s the ‘like’ button? 🙂
Probably best to throw it back in the lake or sell it for scrap.
No, far better to restore it, like the Canadians chose to do with theirs, and the RAF Museum are doing with their Hampden. I always feel a little sad every time I walk past the Halifax at Hendon, sitting rather forlornly on the floor.
Oh and as for the Halifax, I think it looks superb displayed as is, it’s a time capsule and should be preserved like that.
To be honest, I’d describe it more as a stripped-out hulk than a time capsule.
Personally, I’d far rather they waited until a proper survey and plan were put together, funding put in place, contractors evaluated and selected, the frame constructed, and, more importantly, a proper post-recovery conservation plan devised and set up, than a rushed, botched recovery be carried out.
What the RAFM should have done is to recover the Dornier a long time ago.
But wasn’t it only relatively recently (re)discovered?
Ahem, this was 10 years ago, ( hence 60 years !)
see here
Now I’m confused. What does a 10year old recovery of a Ju52 wreck have to do with the price of petrol?
Very nice work going on there.
Does that mean that the Pilatus is to be broken up for parts Matthias?
“Perhaps”, “maybe”, “might not”, “possible”, “might”.
You do seem determined to find a conspiracy here Andy.
13.00.00 until 13.03.30
The entire RAF to pass overhead in 3 minutes and thirty seconds. Blink, and you’ll miss it!
