The policing cost for the aftermath of the Shoreham accident, not to mention their subsequent investigation, is enormous. The perceived risk for airshows has gone up as a result. I understand that the expectation amongst airshow organisers is that the cost that they are quoted for policing future airshows will rise, as a direct result of this.

Bomberboy I hope you are not suggesting that the Waddington airshow will not return next year with a shiny new runway, it is still on my bucket list.

The RAF have already announced that there will be no more airshows at Waddington.

I hear what you say Mike but as others have said the police cannot clear the naughty field at DX or stop people standing anywhere they choose. Nor can the traffic be stopped.

Eh? Show me anything in my posts which suggested this idea. My point is very simple, policing costs for airshows will increase as a result of Shoreham. This will add to the burden on airshow organisers, along with the inevitable hike in insurance premiums for both operators and event organisers.

Adrian is right, the insurance companies will be paying out millions over Shoreham and despite the fact they have been collecting premiums for many years to cover such an eventuality they will have already taken that in profit and they will now want to recover this loss rapidly by increasing premiums and maintain their investors dividends.

I understand that the costs to the local police in the aftermath of Shoreham were also enormous, so in the same vein I would expect the policing chages for airshows to increase substantially in future. None of this is good news for airshows. 🙁

I still find it hard to get beyond the reason for the harness being cut, which to my mind remains inconsistent with the idea of him surviving the forced landing unscathed and walking away.

I’m glad the pilot escaped almost unscathed. A shame about the aeroplane though 🙁
